Re: OK. I can die next year.
Completely over-the-top, mythological, CG action movie? Sure, I'd watch that.

No, he was referring to the legend of Osiris.

I'm inclined to think this is gonna treat Egyptian mythology in much the way Clash of Titans treated Greek mythology. Which is to say: I'm totally fine with it even though it's inevitably going to tick off the scholarly, the politically correct, and the cinematically snooty.

While I will most likely watch it and most likely enjoy it I will constantly be pissed off about the errors, the fact that as always Hollywood has cast:
White American/English actors in the main roles of a film based around Arabic type characters (ala Prince of Persia)
A Scottsman as an Egyptian God (I mean seriously, the man is the sexiest thing alive but he aint no Seth!)
plus I HOWCOME SETH GETS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! FUCK YOU SETH YOU STUPID DOG!!! JACKALS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That being said I'm looking forward too seeing Count Adhemar again... haven't seen him since he was weighed, since he was measured... and absolutely found wanting... Welcome to New World. God save you, if it is right that he should do so.

Re: OK. I can die next year.
But Anubis isn't a bad guy or anything from what little I know from Egyptian mythology, Seth is the evil one from what I gather in most of the stories. So it kind of makes sense Seth would be a nuisance.
I suppose that's the funny thing between different people watching movies, I'm perfectly fine with who plays what (Unless Batman is played by a Japanese woman ) or the idea of a dragon existing in the hobbit but I complain that the directors think that having a pillar between you and the worlds largest flamethrower as fire streams past is survivable.
And the majority of action movies, they make me mad with their lack of physics D:!

Re: OK. I can die next year.
Leeward...
Contrary to popular belief I didn't choose an anubian jackal because it though it would be "nice" or "funny"...
I chose it because I have a serious love for Egyptology...
as your link even says:
Set /sɛt/ or Seth (/sɛθ/; also spelled Setesh, Sutekh,[1] Setekh, or Suty)...
Set and Seth are the same god, some people just spell it one way or another dependent on which branch of mythology you follow (old order or new)...
secondly:
In some depictions he has the head of a greyhound
My first ever readings of Egyptian Mythology was when I was in primary school. The book introduced all the gods and Seth was depicted as a greyhound like dog (much like the Pharaoh Hound). Therefore I will always associate Seth with dogs, which is also why in ancient Egypt dogs are considered bad because they are associated with Seth.
Finally even looking at the hieroglyphs for the Set animal are very canine, it even is described as having a canid body.
I may not know everything there is to know like some of us think we do, but I do know a fair amount about Egyptian mythology and I do enjoy reading about.
I will however admit I found the link to the Set animal interesting, as I actually read through it this time, instead of brisking over it like I did last time I read it.

Re: OK. I can die next year.
I've seen the god being called Set and Seth interchangeably, but "Seth" can be confused with Cain and Abel's brother, whereas Set cannot, which is why I prefer that spelling. The Set animal definitely looks canine and very greyhound-like, but with the tufted tail and weird ears there are a number of other things it could be, as you no doubt already know. I didn't mean to undermine your knowledge or passion for Egyptian mythology, I'm just a stickler for accuracy.

Re: OK. I can die next year.
Leeward, without trying to sound like I'm upset or angry at you... and I'm guilty of this as well and its something I'm learning to do:
Sometimes it's better to just keep you "stickler for accuracy" to yourself. Especially in something like mythology where accuracy is as open to interpretation as Donald Trumps idiocy. there isn't a hard and fast rule in mythology, because we weren't there. Mythology is after all basically a dead religion, and if no one can truly agree about the ones alive today, we shouldn't treat the dead ones like we know all the facts. we don't.
and just because you prefer the spelling of a word one way doesn't mean the world has to follow.
My sister also first thought Seth was a malnourished tapir...

Point taken. I'll try and be less matter-of-fact when discussing subjective things in future.

Internet arguments are about stuff so inconsequential sometimes . Can we not keep to having major conflicts in the world with only current religions rather than the 3000 year old ones as well:P

History is doomed to repeat itself...
Mostly I don't mind your matter of factliness even if I voice how you're being matter of factly. I've learned a lot more from your posts etc. than I have from the majority of furs. but yeah, it's hard to take matter of factliness on a subject that can be taken in so many different ways... like coffee...Leeward wrote:Point taken.
