Free Antivirus Recommendations
Hey guys, I need some tech support. I'm looking for a good, free, unobtrusive antivirus program. Any recommendations?
Re: Free Antivirus Recommendations
Avast has always been my go-to free antivirus. AVG is too intrusive for my taste.

*cough* Linux *cough*
If you really insist on using Windows, though, I would recommended Microsoft Security Essentials - yes, I am actually recommending M$ software. It's lightweight, non-intrusive, and effective.

Re: Free Antivirus Recommendations
I hear good things about avast.
And I do not recommend AVG. Yea they might have done some updates by now but I will not forget the tale when AVG popped up the message "A virus has been found:AVG.exe" and proceeded to delete itself and crashed.

Re: Free Antivirus Recommendations
Yes, but in order to do any real damage, they need root access. That rather limits the potency of the few viruses that actually work on Linux. That's also why it is a very good idea to never use the root account and to use fakeroot when installing from user repositories.Fluke wrote:*cough* java exploitation and a lot of root-kits affect unix systems *cough*MontgomerySeven wrote:*cough* Linux *cough*

I find it amiss to not post the following, since I use it a lot to evaluate the apps:
