The correct term is actually "booties", which lends itself to a far more vague interpretation than "socks". Essentially, it really is a rubber sock that fits over our CV (constant velocity) joints to protect them from outside contaminants and to preserve the lubricating grease. ... The double entendre possibilities are endless, no?

Lol, when I first heard of "tool of the week", I thought the same - a literal interpretation. My first thought was "okay, that's cute... but most of us here are reasonably experienced, and they'd run out of novel, new tools to showcase within two to three months". Nope. It turns out management has a weird sense of humour.
