Teehee. Well I had to censor my face somehow, didn't I? 8-)

Last night I made the tail tuft and this morning I a second layer on the horns with some stuffing to round them up. After a few more layers of white printer paper they should be ready for painting.

Thanks to load shedding and boredom, third layer is done and the horns are starting to look pretty good. I ran out of paste though so I'll have to make some more. I'm surprised at how far it went.

Yesterday I acquired some chocolate brown craft paint for the horn tips, matte clear lacquer spray for finishing the horns, some more sticks for my glue gun (not papier maché paste, I mix that myself) and masking tape for the dummy.

The 3rd layer is still drying so I'll do the 4th and final layer of newspaper after the weekend. After that I'll add 2 or 3 more layers of printer paper, then paint and lacquer.

I really hope to find some fur soon. That's the last hurdle for completion, the rest is just a question of time. Plus I can finish the tail super quickly once I have it.

Today I covered 50% of the horns with a first white layer which once again exhausted my paste supply... Mind you, I was slathering it on with a paintbrush. The horns now sag down under their own weight, so I propped them in position with an arrangement of string. Once they are dry they will be lighter and rigid, which will solve the sagging problem. I'll do the other 50% tomorrow. If they're too slow to dry I'll speed up the process with a hair dryer.

After that it's painting the tips, laquering the whole lot, painting/laquering the nose, making the hair, furring, and done! I'm getting excited! I really hope I'll be finished in time for the meet. If not, at the very least I'll most probably have a tail.

I have a trip to buy the fur planned for Saturday.

I'm reconsidering finishing that first white layer, I don't want to push my luck too much with the weight. I'll try the hair dryer on low just now.

In the meantime I finished the tail tuft and made the belt attachment. All I need now is fur and stuffing to finish the tail.

I am absolutely ecstatic about having found some nice fur. And cheap, too! At R150/m, I just went ahead and bought 3m. Studio 47 has the most amazing variety in stock, including furs. There are even realistic animal patterns, unnatural colours, and layered colours.

Even though today the final step in material acquisition was completed, I don't think there's any way in Oblivion that the head will be done by Saturday's meet. :/ The horns are taking forever to dry.

I'm pretty confident I can finish the tail in time though! :)

Studio 47 are they a franchise?
That is really cheap for the fur I pay around 250 p/m.
I'd rather be fursuiting

As far as I can tell, they're not a franchise, unfortunately. But on the bright side, Fabric Centre in Somerset West had similar stock for ~500/m, so 250/m is still pretty good.

In other news, I have a new design for Stilts 2.0 that will be much simpler to build, much lighter, and a lot easier to put on and wear. This will be my next endeavour while I wait for each layer of the horns to dry out fully.

Also, I may or may not be premièring my tail at Saturday's meet. ;)

My tail is done, but I want to re-seam it since it's not quite tapered enough and stuffed a little too full. I've also been told it looks like a big limp dick so I'd like to minimise that image. Pics when that's done.

I've started work on the new foot-hooves. The base structure is finished; it's made of PVC pipe and plywood. I based the structural design on this Draenei cosplay:

Fingers caps are made. I just need to smooth them up, varnish them, make full-arm gloves, and attach the caps, and then the hand-hooves will be done.

I'm going to put another layer on the horns tonight... although I'm thinking of ditching the papier maché idea altogether and trying something else.

It's actually a lot less strenuous than true digitigrade stilts like the previous ones I made, since the internal structure goes vertically straight down from your toes, and they're a lot shorter. It's just like walking in heels without the heels, or on the balls of your feet.

I knew a guy who dressed up in his gran's clothes as a joke, and he couldn't even make it one hour in high heels. His feet were absolutely wrecked afterwards. He could barely walk. I don't know how women do it. :?

Practice and tenacity. It's a question of balance and building up the right muscles. Calves, mostly.
Alternatively, try walking like a velociraptor to shift the bulk of the strain to your quadriceps.

I've spent years of my life wearing full boots similar to these.
I can rock a pair of heels.

Now imagine chopping off the heel block and walking exactly the same way.
