Favourite Webcomics, furry or not

Post by Raven Song »

I couldn't find anything on a search for this.

I love web comics, and I absolutely love finding new ones.

My current staple is Go Find A Roomie, a story about a promiscuous young girl called Roomie who falls in love with an introverted writer. It's a tale cose to my heart as Lillian (our introvert) reminded me a lot of my ex when I first started reading it. And their storyline was an aspiration for me. Now it's just a reminder of what could have been but also a good reminder that actually... that was a fantasy story and life is actually a lot less scripted.

I obviously loved Exterminatus Now when it was still running, though I love going back and re-reading it, it fills me with all the happiness!

So I wanted to know what everyone else reads and what they recommend. Furry, non-furry, you name it. I personally love fantasy etc. but I'm not too fussed!

I've got a couple that I'm following; some furry, some not.

Cyanide & Happiness
http://explosm.net/
Everyone has probably seen or heard of this one. Daily short comics. Often politically incorrect or weird. But a lot of fun.

The GaMERCaT
https://tapas.io/series/thegamercat
Doesn't update too often. But it's about a cat, who's a gamer. It's got video game references and some cute art.

Housepets!
http://www.housepetscomic.com/
Again, everyone has probably heard of it, so I won't bother giving much detail. It wins an Ursa Major practically every year. Great art and very funny.

Lucid's Dream
https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/l ... _no=103763
It's been on hiatus for a while but should be coming back soon. It's about evil shadows and kitty cats. I interviewed the artist for Flayrah several years back and recently got my physical copy of the first volume signed!

Lumine
https://www.webtoons.com/en/drama/lumin ... le_no=1022
Absolutely adorable comic with witches and werewolves!

StupidFox
https://stupidfox.net/
Slow to update but when it does it has quite little comics about a not particularly bright fox. Quite wholesome.

XKCD
https://xkcd.com/
Another very well-known one. Maths and science based stick figure comics.

Webtoons is a horrible platform to use though. They make it so difficult to actually save webcomics.

Hmm, I've never actually considered the 'saving' of webcomics part, but if you have a profile and follow a series, they're all nicely sorted and easy to find for re-reading.

As a creator it's a nice platform since your stuff is harder to pirate and market as someone else's, and it's easier to find than if you had to set up a website and market from scratch, which is a very difficult way to build up a following.

People should be free to download and save copies of webcomics for their own use. Webtoons makes that very difficult. You may be able to do something similar if you have a profile but that means you have to sign up to their website (with all the problems that can entail) and it does little if there is no internet availability or the website shuts down or the artist gives up and deletes everything. It's just weird seeing so many Webtoons links not even a week after the International Day Against DRM.

From a creator's perspective, I have mixed feelings about what people 'have the right to' on the topic of access to intellectual property (especially in the case of those of us whose livelihood is determined by paying subscribers), but reading that link I can see how certain infrastructure is undeniably problematic.

I wasn't aware that there was an Anti-DRM movement, either.

It's a delicate topic, with people on both sides of the fence.
