A difference between a pony and a horse is simply the height! :)

If a horse exceeds 15hh (we use the term 'hands high' when measuring the height of horses), it is a horse. A horse is under 15hh, it is classified as a pony.
Of course, you do get pony breeds, such as the Shetland Pony.

Then you get horses like mine, that can be classified as both a horse and a pony. When I trim her hooves, she loses some height and sits around 14.8hh. That means I'll be able to enter her in both horse and pony showing classes (what a score!)

Ponies and horses are the same species, but "pony" refers to breeds that are shorter than a certain height at the wither when full-grown (the exact height varies by country). Whether a taller-than-breed-standard pony can be classified as a horse again depends on the country, but typically no, because it's still the same breed.

Terrible picture but still... So many people here at Eurofurence already! There a couple that I've met before, so that's cool.

Chloe i dont want to nitpik but... its under 14.2hh (148cm) for ponies and over 14.2hh (so 14.3hh and up). Though in childrens comps they measure it as 150cm or less eith shoes in.
And theres no such height as 14.8hh... it goes 14hh, 14.1hh, 14.3hh, 14.3h, 15hh etc etc.

There are approxiamtely 80 pony breeds world wide. There are about 200 horse breeds and while it irks me, there are horse breeds with a max height of 14hh (the caspian horse is considered a horse because of its proportions). The horse breeds includes both heavy and light breeds whereas ponies tend to all have similar nody types.

And thats my horse nerd moment done, sorry, but being an instructor for five years causes me to spasm when i see wrong information...

The very Idea of Raven sitting quietly for a few minutes while reading, her eye twitches, her body gently tensing and suddenly with a mighty convulsion and a goblin-like squeal emanating from the very depths of her soul, she begins to frantically type.

Franky, at first I thought you had made an image either of some sort of Arabic script, or of my doctor's prescriptions. :P

On a serious note - it looks fantastic! It is interesting how creative photographers are with multiple, shots superimposed.

Why did you leave whatever it is in the foreground in the shot?

I assume you're referring to the inflatable Jacuzzi filled with water?

Because I'm not a photographer and was just checking how the exposure time thing works...

Well, the more ya know! Thank you for the correct information. I feel like such a narple now!
You'll have to excuse me from the nonsense I babbled on about as that info was taken directly from my trainer! (Who, no surprise, has now shut down the riding school)

Lol, ive known a few trainers who tell their pupils wrong info (what you should do is fond out the cm measurment and then we can figure out the hands but as a guide:
148cm - 14.2hh
150cm - 14.3hh
152cm 15hh
154cm 15.1hh
156cm 15.2hh
158cm 15.3hh
160cm 16hh
162cm 16.1hh
164cm 16.2hh
166cm 16.3hh
168cm 17hh

However its not golden, my horse stood 168cm at the wither but a hand ruler would measure him as 16.3hh.. he ws between readings... )

I always chuckle when people say funny heights, i dont blame hem, its a stupid system. Like how Suffolk Punch horses are always Chesnut in colour, which is exacrly chestnut but spelt different because we can.

Well it's going into winter... But If you're Budapest you should look at the bridges at night. Drove into Budapest at night once and it was beautiful! Didn't get a picture though.
