Thanks
I am amazed everyone understands my world. Nobody I interact with out there, has a clue who this character is.

Re: My doodles
Seriously? The Sonic characters have approximately the same amount of fame as the Super Mario characters, so even non-gamers should have at least heard of them, and that's not even including all the different cartoon series out there, several of which aired right here in SA. I was so freaked out by the concept of robotification as a kid thanks to the one with the Freedom Fighters. I think it was simply called "Sonic the Hedgehog", but I could be wrong.Sonic2k wrote:Nobody I interact with out there, has a clue who this character is.
But then again, we do live in SA. I once got into a huge argument with a guy who refused to believe that DBZ came from Japan, so... yeah. :/
PS: Good "doodle", by the way. You've copied the original art style very accurately.

Re: My doodles
I have no idea, but for the longest time I have been alone, people come to the house, have no clue who these characters are and why I love them.
Anyways, this is what I spent this afternoon doing:

Re: My doodles
Thanks guys.
I do my art like Jack Vettriano does, I use a photograph or a still image as a reference, and then do my own thing with it.
There is a scene in Sonic X where Sonic and Dr Eggman stand like that giving each other shit, so I used that, but the background was crappy and bland, and the shadows are not correct. The scene is not really appropriate for a face-off, so I am fixing that.
So with this technique, and keeping in mind where the light source is (Blender and Solidworks taught me a thing or two) I can do it properly. The drawing is the easy part, the coloring and shading takes ages...

I keep in mind the light source, where the light source is shining from. This I learnt from desktop CAD programs.
As for which program, plain old Corel Draw X5

Re: My doodles
For shading, which I call the "shadows" as well as the "highlights":RavenSong wrote:my problem is it always becomes pixelly... that's what pisses me off...
ah. I used that once. then I lost the licence...
* I draw the shape of the shadow using the b-spline tool in Corel Draw.
* I fill the shape drawn with CMYK black or white (black for shadows, white for highlights or surface sheen)
* I remove the shape outline
* I then use the transparency tool on it, usually 60-70% transparency does the trick.
Since all this art is in vector format, it scales up and down without pixelation.
As for why I use Corel Draw for everything, here is the reason. This was what I used to do when I worked in my previous career:

Re: My doodles
That's a pretty good Dr. Eggman/Robotnik.
Like Tocs, I have to admit that Miles "Tails" Prower is my favorite character. When my brother and I would play various Sonic the Hedgehog games on his Sega Megadrive back in the day, I would always insist on being player 2 so that I could play as Tails.
The only Sonic game I played after the Megadrive was Sonic and Mario go to the Olympics on Wii. I would always play as Tails, and it was fun seeing that character with better graphics and his own voice. My friends became very tired very fast of hearing Miles shouting, "Oh my gosh! I won, I won!" I was happy for him though.

Re: My doodles
Hehe, everyone loves Tails. He is what you would call the key character that leads many into furry fandom.
He IS the definition of a true sidekick.
In more recent games its not always possible to control Tails by plugging in a controller. The last game where that was actually possible was with Sonic Adventure, and only in certain levels such as ICE CAP IIRC...
Most Sonic games these days, are generally single player input, but offer minimal online play through Steam.
