I know, right? There are so many touching moments crammed into only five pages, it's truly remarkable. The relationship between two seemingly conflicting elements starts off with the Venusaur wiping away the tears of the baby Charmander, and then comes full circle near the end, where she wipes away the Charizard's tears right before she dies. The circlet of flowers is a recurring element too, appearing at each major stage in the story. It all comes together so beautifully at the end, where the Charizard adopts two baby Squirtles (once again the theme of love overcoming conflicting elements), and if you look closely, you can see the circlet of flowers hanging on the branch of the tree growing out of the Venusaur's grave. It all comes together to create such a touching story about the circle of life and how love truly conquers all. And what makes it even more remarkable is that this effect is achieved without any dialogue whatsoever. Instead, we have the lyrics for "You are my Sunshine", which fits so beautifully with the story I'm getting all teary again just thinking about it.

I remember seeing this a while back and just sat in my chair rocking back and forth bawling my eyes out.

Nope. I didn't find it that emotional either. The ditto parent comic was much more emotional.

Romanticism rules but as a romantic cynic I did not find it that emotional.
If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear,
if you've something to hide you shouldn't be here.

I dunno, I think it may be less of a comment on our character rather than how we experienced our lives.

This may be true my life experience has taught me that even a romantic at heart can end up incredibly lonely, which is why I may be so cynical.
My character however tends to be a complete contrast to that, caring, loving, giving, gentle, thoughtful etc. everything a romantic should be.
