First attempt with a graphic pen ever!

#1

Post by Luke »

Yeah, so I bought a graphic pen/pad yesterday and this is my first cartoon sketch ever. Please remember that I have not drawn in over four years and this is my first time with digital art. This is also the first Furry character I have ever attempted.

The little guy is just a doodle and not finished but I want to see what you guys think of him so far...

Any advice slash crits and suggestions are welcome. Just no making me feel sad okay?

Just Photoshop hey. I haven't drawn in so long and funny enough I was actually working on another picture that was completely failing. So being annoyed I switched to a new tab and started scribbling randomly. And DAM! That's what happened:3

It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, especially if you live near him.

Well, my furry translator seems to suggest that Obsidian thinks that the eyes are extremely cute and would be highly effective at begging for food, specifically cookies.

I believe it is known as the 'puss in boots' effect?

Extremely well done, especially if this is your first attempt ever! Only thing I could maybe suggest is that you use a different shade of red for the coloring of the chin fur as at first glance it kinda looks like you've just feasted on a kill (unless that's the look you were going for in which case top-notch job ;) )

@Grayhound. The reasoning behind the bright red is that I was a natural redhead and I hated it. So as soon as I was finished school I started dying it every month. I was teased my entire school career because of it. I detested it and had serious complexes. I made it bright red I suppose to say that I don't care anymore. And it seemed fitting that the character was named after my second name. But my shading skills are pretty crappy as well :D I need someone to teach me how to do it properly...

And thanks Durosuka :3

Very nice, about to start drawing for the first time in 20 years... I think you will win at a good first attempt.

Recently got myself a graphic tab as well, not had as much time to play with it as I would have liked, but do enjoy the occasional doodle.

Not bad for a first try! I recently posted my first attempt as well in my art thread here. I got my tablet in November. And then it broke and got another one a few weeks ago after not drawing for four months.

Which tablet did you use, for interest sake, and what version of Photoshop?

Um because I got the Wacom which I never get around to using despite wanting to (well I do occasionally) and I thought this would be a good thread to revive for all those that now have digital drawing devices, and would like to give input.
