And now that I think about it, Studio Ghibli actually has a lot of unsettling characters like that. I remember being creeped out by that hopping scarecrow thing from Howl's Moving Castle, too. :?

The beard makes him creepy for me, but I do know exactly what you're talking about because I have something similar.

Do you guys know what an "onryo" is? In Japanese folklore, an onryo is any kind of ghost capable of physically harming the living. They're usually depicted as young women with pale skin and long black hair. The most famous examples are probably Kayako Saeki from "The Grudge" and Sadako Yamamura from "The Ring".

They're supposed to be scary as fuck (and they usually are) but I find the combination of pale skin and long black hair kinda sexy. :3
Or maybe that's just the fear boner talking... >.>

OwO so that's what happens when you merge an asian woman and a Klingon ey.

.>w<. as noble as the sentiment may be i would not be able to manage that, i lose my composure around abused animals, even if they are fake. UwU/ managed to save a pikachu plush once tho... mostly because it was still smiling and despite being green looked otherwise ok.

i duno, the bare breasted Spinxes turning a dude into a charred corpse kinda got to me more, then again i was never really good around charred corpses to begin with.

Now that is terrifying. It looks like Totoro devoured the model and is chewing on the head.

Totoro always looks like he's about to devour someone. This scene had me on the edge of my seat because I was convinced the girl was about to roll right into his hellish maw. O.O

Owo and yet there is a surprisingly small amount of totoro related vore pictures... i'm sorta disappointed in the internet now.
the show in general is kinda like a shroom trip that's just about on the tip of becoming horrifying.
Image
and for that matter the buss cat's maw is a lot more terrifying.
Image
UwU/ what if that thing eats you, you'll wind up becoming air pollution.

I think the fangs make it less creepy (for me, at least). It's a cat, so you'd expect it to have fangs like that. It makes sense, you know? It feels natural. That creepy-ass motherfucker Totoro, on the other hand... it just feels off. The stubby teeth don't feel right. It's like it's hiding something... or trying to appear less dangerous than it actually is. The whole character gives me that vibe. It's like every aspect of its being is designed to lie to the audience, to hide its nefarious intentions underneath a superficial cloak of derpy cuteness. I look at it and I can't help but wonder, "What is that thing really thinking? What is it really after?"

It keeps me up at night, it does...

Also, this fucking thing:

Same teeth. Coincidence? I think not!

you actually have a point, was similar with falcor. UwU/ the truly horrifying things are those that pretend that they are not.
many pokemon are like that.
take this kawaii mother fucker for instance:

was it a real living thing it would probably have looked a little more like:

the pokedex even implies that its likely to accidentally digest you.

"Cat mouths" in anime usually indicate playfulness or contentedness. The most famous example of this is probably Konata Izumi from Lucky Star.

Cute, right? But if someone really had a mouth like that it would probably be very unsettling, kind of like a cleft palate. The thought occurred to me after I saw this in a manga today. These pages are from "Aoi no Yukiusagi" if anyone is interested: https://mangadex.org/chapter/520442/1

It's fascinating how different art styles can depict essentially the same thing in completely different ways, isn't it?
