At first I thought that was going to be too long, then I started watching a bit and had to see how it ended. Did not regret it.

This is the most intense emotional roller coaster I have ever been on. A tour de force of drama and intrigue. Truly, a masterpiece of modern storytelling.

I just watched the whole thing. The part in the story of Morgan and the Bookshelf where he calls Morgan like a cat was doubly hilarious to me because I happen to have a cat named Morgan.

I don't like how some videos these days just segue into becoming advertisements. :/

Yeah, it was part of the Pogchamps chess tournament on Twitch, where they pitted a bunch of famous and semi-famous streamers against each other. Each one even got to train under a Grand Master coach. Daniel Naroditsky was Charlie's (Moist Critical) and Hikaru Nakamura (the guy in the bottom right) was XQC's. That's why he looks so despondent at the end. There was quite a bit of money at stake, too.

Championship Bracket: 8 players, $30,000 prize pool.

Chess.com PogChamps Winner: $10,000
2nd Place: $6,000
Semifinalist (2): $3,000
Quarterfinalist (4): $2,000

Consolation Bracket: 8 players, $16,000 prize pool.

1st Place: $4,000
2nd Place: $3,000
Semifinalist (2): $2,000
Quarterfinalist (4): $1,250

If you liked that one, you should check out some of the other games, too. All the trash-talking is hilarious, especially when juxtaposed against a game like chess, which is supposed to be so classy and sophisticated. Hours and hours of entertainment.

It wasn't all just fun and games, though. Some of the players in the championship bracket were really serious about winning, and even managed to impress the masters with their skills. Pretty nail-biting stuff.

Again, what made this tournament even better was the lamentations of the old-school chess purists, who wailed and bemoaned the "befouling" of their precious game by allowing these filthy commoners and their unwashed masses of fans into their holy sanctum. It was literally Happy Gilmore, but with chess. Absolutely hilarious.
