Post by Adagio »

Hi there fellow furs!

I im about to lose all self restraint i have and smash my mothers computer against a wall or something!!

My mom got an E-Mail from Delta Air that... Doesent matter, we were expecting over seas deliverys, and my mom couldn't open the Attachment, so she called me, i saw it was an Aplication, and STILL i opened it! NOOB!! *Smack himself whith a plank*
Anyway, an program called Live Security Platinum made its way to my mothers computer, i googled how to remove it, but the prescribed programs didn't work... now it shuts down every minute!!

Does any of you clever programmers kniow whaqt to do??

I am a very relaxed person, and I know computers... BUT THIS!
It was capable of making me angry...

thanks in advance, better hope you were in time!

  Sorry but FAIL !!!

Okay first try starting the system in safe mode (press F8 while booting) this should stop the program from loading and running, then you have enough time to get into the system registry and remove it from there.
Other wise as soon as the system loads, open task manager and go to services or processes tabs and see of you can stop it there. Once that it done you should as I say have more time to kill it properly

Try this:

http://www.winpatrol.com/

There's a free version, and I once used it to stop a virus from loading up at startup. It couldn't get rid of the darn thing, but it stopped it doing anything.

Also useful for blocking any other startup programs.

sounds like you need to perform a boot scan, which should help to kill the virus when your PC boots, this doesnt always help though. If you have a windows disc, then perhaps repairing your installation might help. Troubleshooting via text is always tricky -_- failing that, reformat, reinstall, reflect and repent :P I'm surprised your antivirus allowed a malignant application to run from an email, they are supposed to block that sort of thing. What antivirus are you using on the laptop?

are you familiar with linux in any way? I've looked at the stuff you posted and this... MIGHT work.

Most linu distros can be booted from a CD or DVD in the disk tray and even the USB. Some have great anti-viruses installed and some just need updating. that way you can try and kill the virus from outside the windows platform.

another option is to stick in an extra large USB, external HDD or a new interenal HDD and install windows there. load Kasperski, update it and then scan for the firus, which will be somewhere in either your users folder or windows as it starts with windows... heck maybe even smart enough to hide elsewhere.

please send me a PM if you need help with either of these steps. I'd be more than happy to try and help you recover the PC

Thanks for all ya furr's help, That idea is ingenius Durosuka!! But we already sent it in, and it is back, the virus was so deep, that they had to backup everything and reinstall windows... if they had that trick, we could have kept everything! Thanks for all your help, sorry I didn't post that it's fixed already  ... kinda slipped my mind!!

I know I'm a bit late but if ever you have problems with malware try using this: malware bytes.
I use it all the time and it works well...very well to be honest. :)
