For those who don't know by now. This is Jessica. One of the few things that get me out of my room except university lectures.

She is beautiful! I have always had a soft spot for German Shepherds (or Alsatians, as some call them).
If you want more things to get you out of your room, Cape, I can always come with a matchbox and pyromanic intent...

Jessica is in fact a Belgian Malinois. And she doesn't like it when people light matches.

I could not help but notice Jessica is adorned with a rather stylish set of headphones! Does she have a favourite genre of music?

It appears to be classical. You should see the way she tilts her head from side to side as every nuance blows her mind.

Was just about to say that's a malinois. I wanted one. we had one at stables.
Also Azure, Alsatians are actually an entirely separate breed from GSD's. The difference being the coat type and their origin.

And, in but a single thread, any faith in Azure's apparent knowledge of the various domestic canine breeds was shattered into a million tiny pieces...

You can see straight away that she's not a GSD, she has black points but not the dark back. The morphology is very similar though, since they're both shepherd breeds, so you can have points for that.

Thank you. I was unaware I was being systematically judged on my knowledge of dog breeds. I hope at least to claim a podium position. ;)

That's an awesome dog; even though she is committing the cardinal sin of wearing headphones around her neck.

Also Azure, Alsatians are actually an entirely separate breed from GSD's. The difference being the coat type and their origin.
The direct translation of the name was adopted for use in the official breed registry; however, at the conclusion of World War I, it was believed that the inclusion of the word "German" would harm the breed's popularity, due to the anti-German sentiment of the era. The breed was officially renamed by the UK Kennel Club to "Alsatian Wolf Dog", after the French region of Alsace bordering Germany. This name was also adopted by many other international kennel clubs.

Eventually, the appendage "wolf dog" was dropped, after numerous campaigns by breeders who were worried that becoming known as a wolf-dog hybrid would affect the breed's popularity and legality. The name Alsatian remained for five decades, until 1977, when successful campaigns by dog enthusiasts pressured the British kennel clubs to allow the breed to be registered again as German Shepherds. The word "Alsatian" still appeared in parentheses as part of the formal breed name and was only removed in 2010.

Rakuen I can guarantee you, while I have read and know that article well, if you go and sit with a GSD or Alsatian Breeder, they have a fanny wobble and insist they are TWO SEPERATE BREEDS. Having spent time with some of the top breeders and trainers, including the man who trains the dogs for the metro police (the officers suck, but they're dogs kick ass) they also agree, they are two separate breeds - or perhaps more accurately a subspecies of one another.

However, as I only have word of mouth and my own two eyes as evidence, I succeed. Azure, you are restored your title of "May-Possibly-Know-Some-Stuff-About-Dog-Breeds"
