That's a really cute lion.

And it's spelt "Guard", by the way.

Oh wow.. such a beautiful animal, the amount of jealousy In me at the moment :p
For the most part, it is pointless to be sad in life.
Because sad spelt backwards is das
And das not good
Love every stranger, the stranger the better

@sev thanks for the correction there.

@Adagio it was taken at home. we have a total of 36 lions (5 are white), 7 tigers (2 are white), 2 leopards, 6 cheetahs, 16 wolves, 5 hyenas, about 13 or so foxes, 8 painted dogs and then a whole mess of random game wildlife like impala, oryx, wildebeest ect ect.

@Tocs well if your ever in the rustenburg area (i live in centurion but the lodge is in rustenburg) and feel brave enough we do have special occasions where guests can interact with some of the animals. but only myself and jeandre can do it. ellie is too old help with anything bigger than cubs. and cubs aren't a year round availability...

Why you got so many animals? rehab facility? breeding facility for reserves?

With tigers and wolves, I doubt it's for a reserve. Zoo maybe?

Almost like rehab but not entirely. its a lodge turned zoo turned animal sanctuary. we work closely with nature conservation on helping abused/ illegal/ dangerous animals, but only wildlife. we dont with with housecats and housedogs. that's what the SPCA is for. we handle the animals most people don't know how to or cant.

like the 3 large siberian tigers we have. they had multiple diseases, so skinny you could see their ribs pushing though their skin and almost no fur at all. Everyone gave up on them, even the vet said they wouldn't reach the 1 year old mark. but they're still here 6 years old now, and being regarded as 3 of the healthiest tigers in all of SA.

that's awesome.

I have a perpetual fear when I hear people say "xx lions etc." because that usually means breeding operation, which often leads to canned hunting.

But I'm super jelly that you get to work with a rehab centre! in my favourite area of SA even!

thanks i just want to add one slight correction. i don't work there. my parents own the place. i do this for the love of animals... and cuddling with lions is the most amazing experience ever.

also RavenSong we are one of the most active sanctuaries working against canned hunting. since canned hunting is not an illegal act, there is very little we can do. most of the time we end up purchasing the lions before they are shot or we try an negotiate some other form of arrangement, but its almost always a "buy them or they get shot situation". we also sell some of our own animals but all buyers are required to sign a contract accepting our terms of sale. which are that the animals we sell are not allowed to be hunted or resold to someone who will hunt them. we also don't sell to anyone who has ever been in contact with canned hunting, even if it was just a phone call. the reason most people eventually agree to sign the contract is that we keep very detailed family tree records for the animals. meaning the chances of inbreeding is very very very low. which makes for stronger and varied genetics.

I use to have an African rock monitor lizard called Skyla! But she passed away due to being bitten by a wild snake.

Now I have my pooch and my lil ratties keeping me company in my small, lonely flat

Also that lion is adorable can't help the urge to just squish it's face aaaaaa

Very calm and restful, but if you get them started, energetic would be an understatement. They're very soft in their actions. and they're not afraid to lather you face in saliva if you bring it down to their level.

If you take your marker and connect this dot to that one, that one to this one here you will get a really annoyed dalmatian.

The European Badger (meles meles) is known to have a rather large range of vocalisations, though it must be noted he often makes no sense at all.

She is a gaboon yes Leeward.

Haarties venom centre is 15min away by helicopter and with it being indigenous they thankfully keep on hand anti venom.

I used to keep a lot of venomous snakes, my passion for a long time was the rattlesnakes. Buzzworms be awesome.

My brother and myself buy pre killed rodents, specifically from companies that co2 chamber them for 2 reasons. the rodents death is not cruel and it makes it safer for the snakes as well.

I have been considering going back to constrictors simply because my love of reptiles shall never die.

I kept tarantulas for years. I always laugh, because the worst injury that I ever sustained was when I cut myself on one of the glass terrariums.
