The struggle unheard of...

I just got back from watching zootopia, called zootropolis here in SA, and once again i am reminded of one small annoyance about going to the cinema. For people who wear glasses to help with their vision, not sunglasses, one sentence almost always gets an "ah crap" and that sentence is "Available in 3D only"

let me explain why. you have to make a choice. either take off your normal glasses and wear the 3D glasses and enjoy the movie in all of its blurriness (vice versa would have a similar effect except you would get blurriness in HD) or you could put the 3D glasses over your normal glasses and enjoy the movie in a somewhat uncomfortable manner and with strange view of the movie.

this is my own experience so i have no idea if other people who wears glasses have a similar experience or a work around? i don't know many people whop wear glasses other than me... correction i know only one other person who wears glasses, everyone else i know is blessed with perfect vision.

i hate "selfies"
i honestly despise them but i'm gonna try and take one just to post and show the struggle of wearing 3D glasses over regular glasses :D

3D movies have never done it for me. I saw Shrek when it came out in 3D, and walked out with a mind numbing headache. The constant on-off with the glasses didn't help either.

Granted, I am sure they have improved since then, but I'll stick to 2D if at all possible.

Technically... 3D glasses simply are polarised lenses... One verticalz the other horizontal. Maybe... If you could find the filters... We could make "clip on 3d glasses"?

EDIT: I have an old broken laptop LCD screen lying around... I have enough of the filter material! I'll hit the drawing board pronto!

EDIT 2.0 Polarisation filters in the old screen aren't going to work... They're not clear...

If you have an opportunity to watch a 3D at a Nu Metro ask them for Clip-ons they're a bit more expensive but do not need to be replaced every time you want to go to the movies. I have 2 pairs they work wonders.

My mate wears prescription glasses too and he wears the 3-D glasses on top of them no problem. Have you considered trying contact lenses? They would come in handy in sports or when you need a full-face helmet too.

I watched it in 2D, and thank goodness for that.

3D is a gimmick, and I lost nothing for not having watched the film in it.

Was there no 2D version in SA?

I've got glasses but I've never had a problem with also wearing 3D glasses.

Is someone going to answer my question? Google isn't giving a quick answer, and I'm at work, so I don't want to spend any real amount of time finding out.

When Star Wars TFA released, in Bloem at least, it was only 3D for 3 weeks, then was only 2D for the rest of its showing.
Bloem also rn only has 3D Zootropolis, and I'm assuming will have 2D in a few weeks.
I'm guessing since the 3D tickets cost more, they might make more money from those tickets as well? (Pure speculation.)

Edit:
Ster Kinekor has the 3D one in ~58 Cinemas on their website, and 2D at 12
Link, and Link

That's ridiculous. I hate it when companies force things on you.

Wow, they didn't even adjust the description...
In the mammal city of Zootopia, Nick Wilde, a fast-talking con artist fox and top cop rabbit, Judy Hopps, realise even natural enemies can become buddies. In order to solve the mystery of a missing otter, Judy is forced to team up with an on-the-run Nick, when they become implicated in a conspiracy.

They are circularly polarized, so you need something that is polarized in the same way. Quite doable to make, though.

With my eyes the way they are I was wary the first time I watched it, but I can see with both sets of glasses on, as long as I am in a decent part of the cinema (not right along an edge, for example).

What about simply taking the lenses out of an existing pair and turning them into clip-ons?

Yeah, that does seem like by far the simplest solution.

In Germany and Austria you have to give the glasses back after each movie. It's kinda strange.

It's also like that in the US. Can't you, um, sneak a pair?

Huh? What does that have to do with 3D glasses?

EDIT: Wait, did you just suggest that he thinks that he can keep the car because he has paid for the rental? How does that even make sense?

he's saying that if i used the same logic with car rental companies that i do with 3D glasses at movie theaters then they probably hate me... eg:

me: "i payed for this car so i'm keeping it"
Car rental company: "sir, you payed to rent the car, not to own it."

Thank you, Kirtaro. Didn't think that was so hard to follow.

But that's exactly what I said? That edit was made before either of you posted.

Well you did include "How does that even make sense?" while he correctly pointed out the fee for 3D glasses in those cases must be a rental fee.

Rental fee? In SA I owned a whole bunch, and here you are given them as you enter the theater. I've never "rented" 3G glasses.

When 3D started being a thing (Avatar) the cinema here took them back as well. Used to be crappier glasses, though. Now they are selling slightly better versions, but aim it for multiple uses. The idea is to reduce the amount of glasses that gets thrown away. Environmental, see.

I used to have the same problem with my glasses and 3D glasses. made the switch to contact lenses and never looked back. Also works great for spotting in dance. Though it can be a pain sometimes to put them in lol
