Dean Pelton and furries in fiction
Dean Pelton and furries in fiction
So I was wondering after watching Community... do you think Dean Pelton is a closet furry? He appears to have a fetish for people in dalmatian costumes (but somewhat ashamed of it) and seems really into cosplay. Is it too generic or is the dalmatian thing specific enough? Is it too much of a caricature? What do you think? Also have you encountered any fictional characters that are furries but aren't entirely defined by that alone?

Re: Dean Pelton and furries in fiction
I think it might just be coincidence or a running joke your picking up on.
I have a horse head mask....... but that has absolutely nothing to do with me being furry, it's just great fun.
Comedy show writers usually avoid controversial topics like (shock, horror, gasp) being a furry

The Dean is funny. I doubt he's a furry. More likely, as the late Vice Dean said, he's just a happy "pansexual imp." He's just a character that's waaay out there to add humour.

Re: Dean Pelton and furries in fiction
I've suspected for a long time that Miktar from NAG Magazine might be a closet furry. It's just a vibe I get from his writing.
I think the characters from "Wind in the Willows" might qualify for that. It's a classic tale that's been told and retold for years, and has been made into several movies, but even though the characters are inarguably anthropomorphic animals, they are very rarely seen as "furry" by the masses. In fact, there are hundreds of thousands of people who treasure that story, but have never even heard of the term, so it's safe to assume that these characters must have stood the test of time because they are defined by more than just being animals that can walk and talk (and crash cars) like humans.Leeward wrote:Also have you encountered any fictional characters that are furries but aren't entirely defined by that alone?

There's nothing closet about Miktar when it comes to furry He either is, or was one. His WikiFur entry is specifically kept empty, though.Contrast wrote:I've suspected for a long time that Miktar from NAG Magazine might be a closet furry. It's just a vibe I get from his writing.
Re: Dean Pelton and furries in fiction
I meant in the sense of human characters who are furries like us, not anthro characters.Contrast wrote:I think the characters from "Wind in the Willows" might qualify for that.Leeward wrote:Also have you encountered any fictional characters that are furries but aren't entirely defined by that alone?

I did not know that. O.OValerion wrote: There's nothing closet about Miktar when it comes to furry He either is, or was one. His WikiFur entry is specifically kept empty, though.

I don't use Twitter. I'd rather use my time productively, or at least waste it in ways that won't bore the hell out of me.Auric wrote: Really? Have you not seen him on Twitter? https://twitter.com/Miktar

In the latest Nag, I actually read his article and thought: "there's no way he's not a furry". Glad to see I was right xD

So, to reiterate my question... do you guys know of any human furries (i.e. people like us) in fiction?

Not sure if this counts, but there's a character from the Legend of Zelda games who dresses up like a fairy.
"Tingle (チンクル Chinkuru?, Hylian THylian IHylian NHylian GHylian LHylian E) is a recurring character in the Legend of Zelda series. He is a thirty-five year old man who is obsessed with "forest fairies". Above all, Tingle's dream is to become a forest fairy himself, and dresses up in green costumes resembling the Hero's Clothes worn by Link, as he believes that these green clothes are the same as those worn by the "forest fairies" he seeks to emulate."

I just thought of another possibility. The Wolf Queen (from Elder Scrolls lore) had a brother named Antiochus who had a whole stash of Khajiit pornography, and was known for the frequency with which he utilized the services of the local Argonian prostitutes. He probably doesn't count because anthropomorphic animal people are real in the ES universe and not just a fantasy, so that just makes him kinky rather than furry, but it makes for some interesting speculation.

I heard Zach Braff is dating a furry in his new movie. But apparently the relationship wasn't seen as particularly good by critics and apparently brought the movie down a bit.

Oh, my goodness, I hated Miktar so much; that guy is so full of himself. I bought NAG for years, without missing an issue. And then they started insulting PC gamers. Yeah, I have never bought another issue since.

Totally. I read every copy cover to cover until I stopped buying them, and his articles were the only ones that rustled my jimmies.MontgomerySeven wrote:Oh, my goodness, I hated Miktar so much; that guy is so full of himself.

Onizuka from Great Teacher Onizuka (awesome anime. Watch it!) "Cosplays" a lot. And a few of his cosplays are animal related. Don't know if that counts xD

I always wondered why the Lost Boys from Peter Pan wore animal suits in the Disney version.

Remi dresses up as all kinds of stuff for his pranks, including traffic cameras and popes, so I'm not sure he counts. He's still incredibly entertaining, though. My favourite one is where he dresses up like a bat.
I totally want to do this one day! x3
He used to be a professional soccer player, you know. That's probably why he can get away with all that sh*t.

He's got so many furry costumes, I'm sure he's got to have a little furry in him.
I'm sure he's been arrested many times. I can't imagine how you could get away with how he treats the police. Also his Mario cart stunts are very illegal.

I dono if this counts, seeing as it is abridged, but in Yu-Gi-Oh abridged, Joey is actually referred to as a furry. Even though it's a parody and not a real thing, it's still quite famous...

"This better not awaken anything in me..."
Best Community quote ever. I dunno about him being a closet furry or a furry in denial. He did create the "Greendale Human" that is the single most disturbing thing I've ever come across. I really don't know and don't know how to analyse it.
Fictional furries, however? The Goa'uld from Stargate. Particularly the Egyptian mythology based ones. Ra, Apophis, Her-ur, Bastet, and so forth. They are themes with animals but aren't defined by them outside of humour, like Teal'c's joke here:

Hehehe I hadn't thought of them that way before, and I've watched a lot of Stargate.
