I am watching ALF.
Re: What are you watching RIGHT NOW?
Tokyo Ghoul. Rather appropriately, started it off with a binge watch. Dark and gory, not for the squeamish.

I watched "Contact" with NIB. Very good film, and a perfect example of not having to sacrifice scientific credibility for the sake of entertainment value.

There were a few bits they fudged, but it's a movie about aliens; they got a shocking amount of the astrophysics correct, but the book was written by Carl Sagan, and was very true to the book (not common for films)

What kind of things did they fudge, Mr Ice Bear?

Hard to explain, it's mostly very very nitpicky and minute details

Re: What are you watching RIGHT NOW?
Going in to the film, I honestly expected it to be a slightly bland retelling of the Wow Signal.
I was legitimately surprised when aliens showed up.

Re: What are you watching RIGHT NOW?
I was surprised they got the "coordinates" right, and it was basically the Wow! Signal, but amplified. They didn't entirely accurately account for radio wave degredation, by the time it would leave our solar system, it would be too drowned out by background noise to be perceived by even the most powerful of satellites. Their depiction of the Einsten-Rosen Bridge was quite accurate and I liked that.Sev wrote:Going in to the film, I honestly expected it to be a slightly bland retelling of the Wow Signal.

Yeah, I even mentioned the problem with the radio wave attenuation.

Re: What are you watching RIGHT NOW?
I just finished watching "Aku no Hana" (The Flowers of Evil). I'll post the official summary.
Also, it has one of the creepiest end credit theme songs of any anime I've ever seen. Just listen to this thing! o_O
I don't know why, but something about the voices in that thing just creeps me the fuck out.
This is not a cutesy ecchi anime. It is a psychological drama, and it gets pretty dark at times. The art style may be a bit off-putting at first (it goes for a more "realistic" look that might come off as weird if you're used to the more traditional "cartoony" anime style), but if you can get past that you'll find a story that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go.Aku no Hana wrote:Kasuga Takao is a boy who loves reading books, particularly Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal. A girl at his school, Saeki Nanako, is his muse and his Venus, and he admires her from a distance. One day, he forgets his copy of Les Fleurs du Mal in the classroom and runs back alone to pick it up. In the classroom, he finds not only his book, but Saeki's gym uniform. On a mad impulse, he steals it.
Now everyone knows "some pervert" stole Saeki's uniform, and Kasuga is dying with shame and guilt. Furthermore, the weird, creepy, and friendless girl of the class, Nakamura, saw him take the uniform. Instead of revealing it was him, she recognizes his kindred deviant spirit and uses her knowledge to take control of his life. Will it be possible for Kasuga to get closer to Saeki, despite Nakamura's meddling and his dark secret? What exactly does Nakamura intend to do with him?

I found it kinda creepy, to be honest. Something about Totoro's face is just unsettling, the way it's always staring and smiling. :/

Okay, that is pretty unnerving.
Then again, maybe context makes all of the difference?

Re: What are you watching RIGHT NOW?
well, it's supposed to be the forest spirit, it's native to central Japan, 「森林神社」Forest Shrines (Shinrin Jinja) are littered through out the forests in the rural areas of central northern japan. also 5月 (Satsuki) literally is "May" and 名 (mei) is "name"
