These things are so annoying. I've gotten so many variants from some older family members, especially my grandmother. I keep telling them it isn't real and they keep sending me more.

I once received a similar thing from my boyfriend's mother. She's a practising trauma surgeon.

There is literally no reason for them to send it. If they wanted you to "confirm your account", they could easily just check your traffic, or send a message to you themselves. In the unlikely event that it's true, they can't legally start deactivating random accounts... They'd get sued so hard

I've explained this to so many of my friends...

I honestly can't even see how someone could think that it's real. Or do they just not think about it? I mean, you don't have to know much about how computers work to know that it'd be irrational to "confirm accounts" through a chain letter

Urg... why do people even attempt to do such a thing? I got one the other day from a completely random namibian number and it was in afrikaans haha
For the most part, it is pointless to be sad in life.
Because sad spelt backwards is das

My opinion is that, as part of life-orientation skills in high school, people need to be taught the basic tenets of information security and scams, such as these. We also need to teach older people about the way the world works in the 21st century.

The one year in L-O, we had two teachers. The first teacher didn't do much, was spreading everything out so we'd do a lot at the end of the year. She then got another job and had to leave. We convinced the other teacher that we had already done all the work with the first teacher...

That was a good year

I'm not surprised people fall for these hoaxes when they fall for that.

All I do in LO is counter argue the teacher's points really.
We talk about democracy? I argue how communism also works.
We talk about the benefits (yes. benefits.) of legalizing certain drugs. I argue how that destroys lives.
So really, LO is kinda a waste of time as it is. But I enjoy it for the debates and kicks. And surprisingly me raising counter arguments is encouraged. Huh.

LO I remember that, good times, good times, we played musical chairs in the main hall every LO period we had for a whole 2 months long hehehe .the only thing I learned there was the banana thing lolz and still I never even used that advice either.

generally speaking in my personal experiences any type of message that end with pass this on or something bad will happen I tend to ignore as its all stupid. to me its the best give away of any hoax or scam as in this case your watsapp will be deleted and then youll have to pay .what? I dont pay for facebook why will Facebook when they take over watsapp make me pay for that no sense in it what so ever at all, its illogical.

I ended up the last few days explaining to friggen sixty people all hysterical about it that its a hoax and they should ignore any message that ends with """Send this on or whatever is gonna happen to you"""

someone please write a computer program to automatically delete chain-mails from the internet and cellphone networks please.

Despite the terribly unprofessional design, I actually wouldn't be surprised if that were a real occurrence.

Agree completely.
Quite sad that we live in a world where a story like this is fairly easy to believe
