Alarm clock for Android, that has a password?
Alarm clock for Android, that has a password?
I have a problem.
I am a very heavy sleeper and struggle immensely to wake up. Normal alarms that auto-snooze just get incorporated into my dreams and I end up sleeping right through them, so I need a super heavy duty alarm clock that rings for quite a while before actually awakening. That's not so bad, there are plenty of those around.
My problem is that my boyfriend is a rather light sleeper, and frequently turns off my alarm clock only to go back to sleep without even telling me it rang. I have had enough of that silly routine making me late for work and other morning commitments. I need an alarm clock that only I can switch off.
I need an alarm clock that requires a PIN or password to switch off. I don't want an alarm clock that doesn't bypass the system unlock, because that would require entering it every time I check my phone and I hate that. It needs to be part of the alarm app. Do any of you know of such an app?

If I can make a suggestion here, do what we did.
We got a nice clock radio, and we put it far away from the bed, so neither of us can reach it to turn it off...

Found one where you have to solve a math problem to dismiss or snooze it...

Clocky: want one, too expensive.
Alarm far from bed: tried it, he turns it off anyway.
Math problems: tried that too, same problem.

Maybe I/we need to figure out how to write an app to do that...

Not the best idea but you can put your phone under your pillow. If you don't wake up when he lifts your pillow then you'll never wake up.

Wait it's easy just get an alarm on your PC/laptop. You need a password to log in.

Under pillow: tried that, muffles it too much.
PC: not an option, neither of us have or want passwords on our gaming rigs.
Writing an app: now that's an idea I can get behind. I've done a little Android dev before, would be fun to actually publish an app.

I think it would be a great project, plus at work we have access to Prof Laurie who is the expert in Android here so...

The other idea is that you can put your phone on vibrate, and place it under your neck. That works well for me when I can wake Taka up.Leeward wrote:Under pillow: tried that, muffles it too much.

placing your phone anywhere under you or your pillow is a very bad idea. I've seen far too many explode (and my friend who works in the ER has attested to it being an actual thing).

Exploding phones? But then that would make them unsafe for even general use, then.

Re: Alarm clock for Android, that has a password?
LiPo Batteries in phones do have the tendency to explode under the RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES
charging DOES generate heat, and the insulation that the pillow and the bed provides COULD cause it to heat up, POSSIBLY enough to cause an explosion... But they should have safety cut out's... Why else would they have thermal sensors specifically for the battery?
Perhaps cheaper models, like the 5 Bucks fong-kong types... Could have an catastrophic failure?

Re: Alarm clock for Android, that has a password?
Let's clear up the misconceptions and lies put forward by what I call the Speakwrites (the Orwellian organs of sensationallist reporting i.e. the media)
1. A Lithium-Ion polymer battery (henceforth referred to as a Li-Po) is a special animal, it needs the right kind of charging, carefully controlled, and this is usually a task that necessitates software running on a microcontroller or CPU.
2. Li-Po batteries are usually designed with safety in mind. Each LiPo pack has some electronics in it, that is designed to cut out when the battery is abused i.e. short circuited, overcharged, or discharged beyond a threshold.
3. With cheaper batteries, and cheaper electronics, the worst that usually happens is the battery swells up like a balloon. With cheap, Chinese knock-off batteries, there is usually a case of flammability. The thing burns, rather than explodes. Older batteries, i.e. older technology probably had the risk but there is no real conclusive reporting or studies done. The technology changes so rapidly that newer types of battery are constantly being marketed, LiPo is safer, and far more stable than the original Li-Ion.
4. These batteries generally only explode when tossed into fire. More often than not they just swell up like balloons.
The above is from my experience with them, having actually designed them into commercial products, and experience with designing charging circuitry.

So my S6 is safe then, and I shall continue to have it under my neck.
