SysRq
It's probable that nobody will know the solution, but here goes:
My computer runs Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon.
Despite the fact that I have enabled all "magic SysRq" functions (value 1), my system reports that many functions, such as [alt][SysRq][e]/[k] are "disabled". If anybody has any theories on why this is so, please enlighten me.

Re: SysRq
I have two theories:
1. Your keyboard requires some other modifier key (e.g. Fn key found on many laptops) to be pressed as well because SysRq is a secondary function on that key in that particular layout.
2. SysRq might be disabled by default in that particular flavour and to change that you're going to have to fiddle with (i.e. recompile) the kernel.

Re: SysRq
Like I said, SOME combinations work, like the sync, remount, reboot, and powerdown functions, even and the SysRq setting is at 1.
It IS possible that the guys who assembled the distro tore out the other functions, in which case all is lost...

Hmm, then I don't know. Have a look here, it mentions some useful tricks: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions ... -invoke-it

You... Work for them, don't you? -_-Fluke wrote:Use Windows.
Be gone fiend! XD
Seriously though: No. I prefer Linux Mint.
Not that I have anything against Windows 7, but (1) it's expensive and (2) I don't even know if it's still sold. Win 8 can go take a running jump.
Plus, that suggestion still doesn't help, because ctrl+alt+del also doesn't have the functions I'm looking for.

Re: SysRq
I prefer Ubuntu personally, but I actually quite like Windows 7 for gaming and other pleb stuff. One way around those two cons is simply not to buy it, if you catch my drift. But yeah, not helpful.

Re: SysRq
Anything useful in those links?
Re: SysRq
Why are you even using it?
It implies you're constantly facing hardware/software issues - which you should fix.
It's the equivalent of saying: "My car's battery is consistently dying in the morning, I need an industrial method to jump-start it!"
No. Just replace the battery.

I'm using it so I can learn how to use it when I need it.
Yes. I do need a new computer. You got a few thousand lying around for me?

Re: SysRq
Why would you recommend that? Might as well just give him a sledgehammer and tell him to hit his computer till it works better.Fluke wrote:http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software ... ndows10isoIT-Werewolf wrote:I'm using it so I can learn how to use it when I need it.

Re: SysRq
Really? I've used Alt+SysRq+REISUB on Ubuntu 14.04 a few times and never noticed anything not working. But then again I was only trying to gently knock out a frozen PC so I wouldn't have been able to tell anyway.
Thanks for sharing the solution, it will be helpful if anyone come across the problem in future.

Even the Linux 4.0.5 kernel for Mint/Ubuntu has it disabled, it seems...
