For all of their unrefined-ness, the STALKER games did the past apocalyptic open world setting better than anyone.

They were much shorter and easier than Fallout though. It's quite a steep skill curve and I know Yahtzee complained that the combat was unforgiving but once you learn how it works... Once I somehow pissed off a whole settlement. It was a mistake but then I just killed the entire town every time I needed to go through.

STALKER was rubbish.

Super-soakers had more impact than those guns; everything was ugly as hell (even by post-apocalyptic standards (I'm talking about poor, empty, boring design here)); the pacing was messed up, and it was buggy as all hell.

The pacing was really awful too. 15 minutes in, I found 'high end' mercenaries with assault rifles and armor, and exploited their poor AI to kill them with my starting pistol. No pig-monster after that, could stand against my mighty leaf blower! I didn't have a problem finding ammo for the assault rifle either.

I got bored three hours into the game and stopped playing. I've never looked back.

Maybe Fallout 3 was better than Fallout 4, but I don't think either of them was worse than STALKER.
Hahaha!

Oh come on Bethesda. Get your shit together.
"Let's give them radiation weapons that work really well against humans but not at all against machines to show that we as a company understand the difference between flesh and a robot."

What the hell? I would love to hear the explanation as to why I can heal a robot with stimpacks. Where did I even inject it?

What are you on Ryall?

STALKER was ugly, buggy, and unrefined. The weapons felt rubbish, and the game was often wildly unbalanced. BUT, the world felt alive and the atmosphere was spot on.

"Oh I only have 3 fusion cores. Better use them sparingly"
Objective located in enemy compund
"Ah an excuse to take the suit out for a spin"
Annialates the enemy, and walks out with fat loot
"Oh, it seems I got 6 fusion cells now after looting, well, guess I'll take a lil stroll..."
Finds another dungeon, clears it, fat loot, lost both arms and legs of power armor
"Well damn, I seem to have 10 cores now, guess I'm staying in power armor then"
>x<

It seems to me the limiting factor (in my playthrough) is not the power cells to run power armor, instead the issue is that it keeps getting damaged! I must have wasted over 200 metal to fix it. Should start finding those other power armors I ran into and keeping their limbs handy so I dont ru... wait no I need an armor station to change it! Dammit!
Well either way I'll get them so I have spare parts in case I run out of metal

I just had a weird bug. Somehow the game was running at 1920x1080 but the HUD was displaying a smaller resolution. Even exiting to the menu just left black strips on the bottom and side of the screen. o.0

I didn't... but only because he's a dog. I didn't think he could carry anything. Then I learned he could and dumped a bunch of raider armour on him. No idea how much he can carry though.

Oh boy this game runs like crap on AMD. Hopefully they add Crossfire some time soon. Well, still get ~50fps with Ultra 1440p + ini tweaks (ini tweaks allow for far greater detail). Had to compress the images slightly, so excuse any jpeg artifacts you find.

Yeigh, this game is buggy. I've been playing for the last hour with a "night vision" on, and now the entire screen just went black.

My elevators are buggy as shit. The animation freezes when travelling up or down, especially if you're in the elevator with two or three other people.
It still arrives at its destination after like 15 seconds.
It just looks like the game froze.
Otherwise no complaints.

It bothers me that Dogmeat never gets in the lifts. Once I went back to Vault 111. Dogmeat didn't get on the platform. I get to the bottom and he's already waiting inside the vault... Sometimes he does get in them and then stands halfway through the wall.

This is bethesda after all
Dogs bark, birds fly, bears shit in the woods, bethesda release buggy games.

Though I was quite happy when dogmeat did in fact get into the elevator with me.

At least in Skyrim you could shove Lydia out the way by sprinting into her or Fus Ro Dah-ing her.

In fairness, it's probably impossible to release a massive open world which dynamically reacts to you without it being full of bugs. There are just too many things that can mixed and put together to make sure everything works perfectly.
