The Elder Scrolls Online, no longer subscription-based

I got into the ESO beta but was unable to play it properly because at the time I still had my old setup which could hardly even run it. That and the fact that it was to be subscription-based convinced me not to buy it. I kind of forgot about it after that.

Now they've apparently decided to ditch the subscription for normal play, and make it a pay-once-play-free-forever, with perks for those who pay. Apparently it won't be unplayable for F2P players (unlike some other MMOs *cough* WoW *cough*), in fact all the content will be accessible and there will be are no restrictions such as level caps.

The change is scheduled for the 17th of March on PC/Mac, and the game will be released as such on PS4 and XB1 on the 9th of June.

I was an idiot and bought it along with subscription for two months back when it released.
Was very sucky playing it alone.

Not sure if I'm looking forward to play again, but I'm going to give it another go anyway, since I have the thing already anyway.
Would probably be much nicer with others too.

I'm actually not sure whether or not I technically own a copy, because I got into the game during the beta so I have a valid game account, but that's unrelated to the billing account I believe. Just because you were in the beta doesn't give you a free copy I suppose, but a thrifty person can always hope...

Depending on the price I might try it. I think it's currently set at 59.99 USD. *Cringe*

I don't think being in the beta gives a copy, no
also BT Games has it listed as R599.90, and CNA for 649.90.
Couldn't find it on Game, Incredible Connection, or Makro's websites.

The wise works of Jay Naylor come to mind.

They tried to peddle a R650 game with a $15 a month subscription. That's just madness.

BT Games Bloemfontein didn't even stock 1 month cards at release, so you had to buy two months.
(and the 'free one month' you got for pre-ordering didn't activate until you bought subscription)

One word: pathetic. Why would you even pay to play that mediocre game for three months?

I wont try elder scrolls online.
Why?
I wanted skyrim co-up.
Not WoW clone 9000. Yes there are differences but ya still have fixed classes to races and races stuck to factions
Though I'd rather play elderscrolls than play wow

Meh. Over this already. I'm waiting for The Division now. That is going to be crazy good.

Just in case anybody is interested, ESO:TU (the pay-once-free-to-play edition) is currently on sale on Steam at -33%:
I think I might buy it.

That game has quite literally gone silent. Almost dead really. I think they announced and hyped it waaay too early. Remember all those people who were super stoked about it at the 2013 E3? Half of them (me included) have by now completely forgotten that it existed. Anyhoo, I'm still waiting...it will eventually be released....someday...

For anyone who's interested, this is currently 50% off. Although please note that if you buy it via the official website it costs 27.50 EUR (491.93 ZAR at current exchange rate), but if you buy it via Steam it costs 294.50 ZAR.
