I've heard bad things about the new SimCity. Basically that it hasn't been working. Needs constant internet but the servers are insufficient making it very difficult to get on and when they crash you can lose hours of play time.

http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in ... 05322.html

Maybe they'll have fixed the problems by the time you get it but still. Should tell games companies to stop with the stupid always-online games.

Indeed server load seems to be a problem, they disabled cheeta mode to try and help with server loads, but who knows...

Anyway playing first 30 mins it seems good no server problems yet, just a big patch to download in the start :/

Edit: and server is down :(

Just thought I would update you guys on my experience, it worked okay when I installed it but just after the above post till 11pm regardless of what the server status was "Busy/Available" or what server you choose, it will eventually start the game, but as soon as you see the main menu you will get a "Failed to connect to EA servers" if your lucky you can click on play and a few seconds later you get the same message without the game starting.

At approximately 11:15PM I got connected and it allowed me to re-start the tutorial, I finished it, started a game, no-problems and continued to play till 3:30AM the following morning,at 3:30 I was a bit weary of exiting the game as there was alot of reports that most servers dont save progress but I had to due to the fact that I was way to tired and had to get up at 7 for work.

As for the Game: it didn't even take 2 1/2 hours to completely saturate the entire building area in the city, its way too small.I started a new map and throughout my play session no other players joined me, meaning it was impossible to share utilities, giving even more strain to the small tiny build area, as its difficult to build up a large enough work force in one area without getting into too many problems like pollution, education, and crime problems, there forcing the social multiplayer onto every one and it shows.

The game will probably rock Multiplayer wise if more furs join my area, and besides at this stage if any one does they will enjoy all the utilities and services I had to build.

The whole social/multiplayer aspect is complete failure as I believe that every one just wants to do there own cities, making the fail-drm even more FAIL!!!

Heres the thing, it can be solved easily by adding offline-mode or dedicated servers, I know a lot of people who would jump to host there own dedicated servers if they had the chance to.

Yeah, every report I've heard has been:

"Good game, but I get dropped more times than a ton of bricks" sort of statements :P I would play it, if not for the fact that the servers are only online, and there is no offline mode. I am not a great person to play games with (as I get bored and go onto other things) so for me, these always online and allow random people/ friends to help with your games ideas just bug me to the point that I refuse to play the game. If I'm gonna play with others, I'll choose to, not be forced to.

Sorry, my 5 cents worth from a fan of the original sim cities and 2000. Might hook up a copy of 3000 since my 2000 no work no more. Anyone's opinions on 3000?

You can use the dos version of Sim City 2000se trough dosbox on Windows 7 or if you have xp the windows version runs just fine :) Gog.com has the dos version for sale :)

Sc3000 is pretty good too though it has some nice editions to the game like advisers, gfx arent too bad.

I actually still own the copy of 2000. I installed it, played and no one moved into my city, external links with other cities could not be bought (money was still removed, though no link created), etc etc etc, so I think it was something going wrong there instead ><

Thas mainly my reasons for moving up to 3000. If I ever get the money to do so :P

I am really keen to hop in and play the latest Sim City at some stage, but I think I will wait out the server problems, and maybe even wait for a patch that increases the building area.

I saw this one comment earlier today:

I'm actually excited about people pirating this game

Means less people will be on the servers so I can play

Hey,

Are the rumours true?

Is there going to be an offline version of this game?

A hacker has released an offline mod for SimCity (Not really a proper mod.....all you do is remove this line of code: 'kNoRepeatNetworkAlertSeconds : 15, kNetDownForceQuitAfterMinutes : 20,' at it'll run offline.) however so far as official maxis stuff, i'm pretty sure there's nothing planned.

There is a small team working on it, you can mod the game by editing the two lines above but cant save due to the game using cload saving, making it pretty useless...

I am having terrible problems with SimCity.

My maps don't load half the time when I try to resume a game.
And I experienced a roll-back on my biggest city.

Are the maps being saved on the server or something?
Can't I load them locally?

dude have you missed the rants and screams?

Sim city saves on the EA cload and all functions are controlled through the server. its not like diablo 3 where its an mmo. its a single player game, gameplay handled on the local mashine, controls routed through the EA server.

why did they do this?
*squeky voice*

hows the game going? Has EA fixed the issues yet? like the bugs, AI glitches, save losses and the plot size being far to small?

Well you can choose to host a private game.
That is what I have been doing since no one is online to join my game on origin :<

Bumping this old thread. I want to build furtopia multiplayer.

Started playing it last night and it's way easier than SC4 by far. But there are some more in depth stuff too look at considering the map sizes are so small. The servers and stuff looks fine more than a year later or it could be that no one is playing it anymore lol.
