I never had a liking in Hardstyle music, for me it just sounds like a over use of 909 snares and high pitched synths. Donno why they call them the bass experts though. Over driven Trance can go but gets annoying when listening to it for 30 minutes.

It all started with the introduction of the Roland tb 303 synth. I think Hobnox online AudioTool has an emulator in as a vintage synth. It was designed for square and sawtooth baselines and the Acid producers where mostly interested in the 1 knob filter cutoff functionality still used today in multiple Synthesizers (Virtual or Analog). Fidget, Dubstep, Glitchstep.... all these new wacky wobbles are automated with the Low pass and High pass cutoff. Actually this track is a bit more commercial but the true acid house scene started in 1987 with Phuture's LP release.

This is as old as I can date back for Acid house. And yeah it was named Acid for a reason. You can clearly hear the Roland tb 303 kicking in at 1:06 in this track. 1987
