Personally I like rock and metal, with my leaning nowadays towards more symphonic/power metal. Some of my fav bands are Trapt, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Sonata Artica, Nightwish, Cradle Of Filth and Dragonland.
I do like songs from other genres though but that usually depends on the songs themselves. I find most other songs to just be stupid or badly constructed.

I'm pretty eclectic, I think, although I do tend to take it on a song by song basis. There are very few musicians/bands whose CD's I'd buy without listening to it first. These include:
1) Sarah Brightman (Classical, Crossover Classical, Dance, Pop, Rock, Gothic Metal are the genres I've heard her sing)
2) Enya (Celtic, New Age)
3) Mike Oldfield (Progressive Rock)
4) Vangelis (Neo Classical, Electronica, Pop)
5) Bonnie Tyler (Rock)
6) Stevie Nicks (Rock)
7) Blackmore's Night (Various types of rock, New Age)
8) Vaya Con Dios (She has her own style, but it's closest to Jazz/Blues)
9) Katie Melua (Jazz/Blues)
10) Keiko Matsui (Instrumental Jazz)
11) Nianell (Because she's teh AWESOMENESS!!)
As you can see, quite a wide variety of absolute favourites. But that doesn't mean that this is all I listen to. Some of my most oft played songs are Power Metal (Sonata Arctica, Manowar) or Gothic/Symphonic Metal (Nightwish/Lunatica) or even country (Dixie Chicks/Emmylou Harris) as well as Afrikaans stuff (Theuns Jordaan/Laurika Rauch/Anneli van Rooyen/Die Campbells).
As for time periods...well, I LOVE classical music. Tchaikovski, Rachmaninov and Rodrigo are my favourite composers, although Puccini has them beat where Opera is concerned. I have stuff from the '40s through to 2008 releases. So yeah. I like music. :p
