I'm sure I have some really sad songs but it's hard to remember them offhand. Here are some of the ones I can think of at the moment.
My December - Linkin Park
"And I'd give it all away
Just to have somewhere to go to
Give it all away
To have someone to come home to
This is my December
These are my snow covered trees
This is me pretending
This is all I need"
Gloomy Sunday - Paul Whiteman with Johnny Hauser
This was infamous as the Hungarian suicide song and is actually quite nice. You also get cultural props as the version I have is from 1936.
"Sunday is gloomy, my hours are slumber less
Dearest, the shadows I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of sorrows has taken you
Angels have no thought of ever returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of joining you?
Gloomy Sunday
Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to end it all
Soon there will be candles and prayers that are sad, I know
Let them not weep, Let them know that I'm glad to go
Death is no dream, for in death I am caressing you
With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessing you
Gloomy Sunday"
Perfect - Simple Plan
"Hey, Dad, look at me
Think back, and talk to me
Did I grow up according to plan?
And do you think I'm wasting my time
Doing things I want to do?
But it hurts when you disapproved all along
And now I try hard to make it
I just want to make you proud
I'm never gonna be good enough for
You can't pretend that I'm alright
And you can't change me"
I probably have others that are perhaps more sad but I can't think of them offhand. Also some have sad lyrics but don't sound sad and vice-versa.

Anything by Frank Duval.
Some examples:
Also, I would add Koos Du Plessis to the list. His songs are really good, but when he sings them they just make me sad. It's better when other artists sings it.

Well ... comments on the post above ...
The last song can also be interpreted as hopeful, rather than hopeless.
I didn't post the quintessential Frank Duval song.
And, to my shame, I forgot to include one of my all-time favourites:

Anything from Leonard Cohen
Search for Hallelujah.
You might recognize the cheery version from Shrek 1. Yes, that sad depressing song was his cheery version. The original.... keep your sleeping tablets locked up

And if you want a more furry version it was also covered, very well, by Fox Amoore and Colson. In case you don't know, Fox Amoore is a well-known furry musician (did music for Bitter Lake) and FA admin. I'm not sure who Colson is though.

Define sad.
Is it just slow paced
Does the song have to be based on sad lyrics or a sad event?
Or could it be something like this?
Torn Apart by Sagisu Shiro, Bleach Soundtrack

The Dead Flag Blues by Godspeed You Black Emperor!
Its one of my favourite instrumental songs ever, the monologue in the first movement gives me goosebumps every time. Its just one of the most sombre and depressing things ever.
the car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows
the government is corrupt
and we're on so many drugs
with the radio on and the curtains drawn
we're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine
and the machine is bleeding to death
the sun has fallen down
and the billboards are all leering
and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles
it went like this:
the buildings tumbled in on themselves
mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble
and pulled out their hair
the skyline was beautiful on fire
all twisted metal stretching upwards
everything washed in a thin orange haze
i said: "kiss me, you're beautiful -
these are truly the last days"
you grabbed my hand and we fell into it
like a daydream or a fever
we woke up one morning and fell a little further down -
for sure it's the valley of death
i open up my wallet
and it's full of blood
Tom Waits has far too many songs that can fall into this category all of them great for a late night depression induced binge drink.
Cruel Bloom by Converge
This is another one of my favourites with a sombre and gloomy tone

Connell Cruise - Not just friends
Heard the song before, but only recently actually listened to it, was so moved I posted the lyrics on my FB which I fear was the final nail in ever regaining any modicum of a friendship with my ex.
Creedence Lyrics: Lodi
Just about a year ago,
I set out on the road,
Seeking my fame and fortune,
Looking for a pot of gold.
Things got bad, and things got worse,
I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! Lord, Stuck in Lodi again.
Rode in on the Greyhound,
I'll be walking out if I go.
I was just passing through,
Must be seven months or more.
Ran out of time and money,
Looks like they took my friends.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
The man from the magazine said I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost connections, ran out of songs to play.
I came into town, a one night stand,
Looks like my plans fell through
Oh ! Lord, Stuck in Lodi again.
Mmmm...
If I only had a dollar, for ev'ry song I've sung.
And ev'ry time I've had to play
While people sat there drunk.
You know, I'd catch the next train back to where I live.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

Brisby, would you like me to explain how the YouTube tag works again, or are you just going to ignore me once more?

I usually listen to Moon River by Andy Williams when I feel alone (so I guess it counts as sad???)

I have a few slowish songs that I listen to.. They're not necessarily sad, but definitely have a melancholic feel to them. They're from the soundtrack of the game Life is Strange;
