Animal combatants

What are your opinions on the use of animals in combat?

Horses were used for centuries to carry knights, pull chariots and transport cavalry. Dogs have also been trained for use in military situations and America has a number of memorials dedicated to dogs that died during the war.

Now obviously animals are not as important in combat since mechanics have improved tremendously but they probably are still used on occasion and are commonly used by security companies, the police force and rescue organisations. In all of these lines of work the animal's life is put at risk without having anything explained to it, if they can understand or not.

Involving civilians in combat is seen as a bad thing so what is your thought of dragging animals into conflicts they had no part in starting and that doesn't involve their own species? And is using them in rescue and police capabilities more okay?

I don't think that it's OK to drag the animals into a battlefield.

But in cases like 9/11, when the dogs were used to rescue all those people trapped under the rubble, I think they play a crucial part. Those people would have died if the dogs were'nt there to sniff them out.
Justice, glory and bitches - in that order.

I approve of the use of Police/Military working dogs. One of my favorite movies as a child was about a military working dog during WWII, in fact.
