Merriam-Webster has, over the years, tried to keep an accurate date of first use of each word in the dictionary. Their explanation for how it works:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/help/ex ... dict-dates
Given that, they have publised a list, by year, of words first used in that year. If you want, post some surprising words from there. I'll start with mine:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-b ... -date/1973
There's a lot of sciency and computer-related stuff in mine, which is not at all surprising.
I completely got the wrong definition for
deep throat - I keep on forgetting that's the year that Watergate happened in too, and I normally see that one in caps.
Surprises:
- pro choice
- puppy mill
- s/he (haven't seen this one in a while)
- speciesm
- televangelist
- triathlon (!)
- trauma centre
- urgent care

I assume you mean birth year?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-b ... -date/1992
Mine are mostly related to technology, chemistry, and psychiatry.
> 3-D printing
> autism spectrum disorder
> auto-complete
> cyber
> digerati
> frankenfood
> in silico
> photoshop
> polyamory
Although there are also a few unexpected ones:
> arm candy
> buzzkill
> man cave
> meh
> woo-woo

The
cybersurfer who uses a
keylogger made a
booty call to a young
fashionista.
But the
game changer is that they ended up watching a
DVD and stuffing their
pieholes with popcorn.

Good god...
1995: Genderqueer, anti-globalization...
One could almost call it prophetic.
And apparently, "date rape drug" was also used for the first time in that year. *Awkward cough*
But there are some cool ones, as well: E-collar, and e-tail! For all the e-furries in the e-fandom.
