Do you feel fairly paid for what you do?

Question in title pretty much.
  • Do you feel your employer pays you fairly? A little above, under market rate?
Do you feel like your employer has compensations in terms of "nice working environment/etc." if they don't remunerate you as fairly as market rate?
Do you feel like you are fairly benchmarked for market value?
Do you feel like you get fair raises annually / etc.?
Do you feel respect for your employer enough to be 100% honest about your hours?
Do you feel like you are overly stressed/giving too much to work for your remuneration?
Do you feel you field as a whole is underpaying/stressful/etc. ?

For me it's pretty much nope to a lot of those. But I'll go into detail later in the thread, more interested to see other's views.

I work for the State so my on-paper salary is "good" but not when considering my level of education & years of experience. I have no prospect of earning more than anyone of my rank & promotions are rare/unfairly decided. Annual raises are inflation level or sliiiightly above, but they do happen for us all regardless.

I definitely feel stressed. I literally work with people's lives. An off day for me could mean that a rapist walks free. I am at the end of a very long specialised chain of analysts - so if *I* work harder, it is still no guarantee that work will get done. Most of the time I need to trust, hope, encourage & argue to get Things Done (TM).

*BUT*

My perks are AMAZING. I pay R700 a month for a medical aid that covers everything (which given my family health history of heart problems is a huge relief). I contribute 7,5% to my pension fund & my "company" contributes a further 17,5%. In 20-30 years (*cries a little*) when I retire, I will be very well taken care of.

Interesting. I fork out 2007 a month for average medical aid, and even the best raises this year in this company were below inflation level. They only pay 3% towards pension too.

I have nearly doubled my salary by threatening to quit twice though. It's still around half of a company next door lol. But this one is so loosely formatted that I can get exposure to lots of things.

Stress is an obvious worry, I started forgetting days, losing sleep and such over stress from work. Soon as I took leave, 2 clients which I look after intensely were ignored, fell over, and still struggling to bring them up to this day... Plus the stress from barely being able to get by as things like my computer and car are on the verge of breaking completely without me being able to afford to cover them...

I guess the good parts are the exposure and experience gain. I need some more exp and certs under my belt before I leave this hellhole for Canada B)

I'm always up for earning more, but considering that I get paid above the average for my level of experience in my field, I'm not unhappy about it.

The day when I reach the private banker tier will be a good day, though.

mines a little complex as I'm an appy but no... I don't feel that for the amount of work I do, amount of responsibility I have and the amount of hours I do (not to mention my expenses), I aint paid near enough.

but not much I can do about that till I pass/we get a farm of our own

I'm very (more than, even) satisfied with my work situation. Like any other job it has its challenges, but they are reasonable, accommodating, and look after their people's best interests. The company culture is great, not at all the corporate mindset you'd expect. They like to give us as much freedom as possible, and therefore I don't get benefits, but instead get paid well enough to choose my own medical aid etc. They're also not fussed about strict adherence to work hours, as long as you get stuff done on time (which is how it should be everywhere, imho).
