Yeah, an interesting issue. Hopefully this one is solved soon ... 64-bit does resolve it for some applications.

The 2038 problem is basically 32-bit systems's system clock looping, reaching the highest 32-bit number

Switching to 64-bit doesn't technically remove that problem, only delays it... But, due to the exponential nature, it delays it by more time than we expect the universe to last...

So, instead of removing the problem, we just delay it by so long that it probably won't affect any humans ever

As far as I know, integers are still only 32 bit numbers. So switching to a 32 bit system doesn't change it unless you release a patch...

They're changing the number to be saved as a 64 bit number.

Call it optimism

The year is 292471210648 (yes, I did the math). Humanity is still somehow clinging on... Maybe they moved to another dimension or something? Computers start going crazy. We realise we need to upgrade to a 128 bit system...

Um won't we upgrade computers before then that is if we survive. I mean if we're in a different dimension the pc WILL certainly certainly be in proved right? Well that is not my problem.

The windows 10 blue screen of death looks weird... Looked for a wallpaper to mess with my dad. Worked he was socked =)

By that year x86-64 technology would be the stone age of computing.

128 and even crazier bit rate computers do exist for crunching math problems in order to do predictions. It's why supercomputers and mainframe doesn't use x86-64 technology. Though mainframe is dying out imo and being replaced with mission critical X86-64 systems with high connection speeds.

We managed to transcend to another dimension or universe with the computing power of x86-64 technology? :P Good grief.

I do see your point, however. I do not want to sound pessimistic, but aside from the mathematics of computer processing power, I doubt humanity would be around by then. Even 1 000 years from now looks quite grim (one mathematician, Dr Fergus Simpson from the University of Barcelona, estimates that humanity has a 13% chance of total extinction before the year 2100). Perhaps we can beat the odds with clever strategizing and accelerating tech development... but there are still many unanswered questions that we need to answer if we as a species want to continue surviving several centuries from now. The Earth won't always be hospitable.

In any case, I am sure there are those with more knowledge and who have greater minds than I who are assessing the problem at this moment.

I really do wish to be able to see just where humanity goes. But unless it dies out in my lifetime, with me the last survivor, I'll never know...

I like to think that people are resourceful. Even if there was an apocalypse, I'm sure isolated pockets of humans would survive... "one mathematician, Dr Fergus Simpson from the University of Barcelona, estimates that humanity has a 13% chance of total extinction before the year 2100". No offense, but I'd sooner trust an anthropologist than a mathematician on this issue.

There is a lot of pessimism in this world. But truth is, this is the best time for humanity... Ever. Sure, we've made some mistakes. Global warming, for example. But at least we are aware of our mistakes (Except for Trump... Dammit, I wish he'd just stop). Point is, most people want to fix it

And if stuff does go belly up, even if we do lose 90% of the population, the other 10% would find a way. And they won't have to start from scratch, we have all our information (though it'd probably be wise to print it out and put it in safe places)

I see no problem here. The franchise it might resemble only allows two genders and this bag shows a myriad of genders. So there isn't the slightest connection.

What do you think of the author's statement, that it may be possible to create gold (or something indistinguishable from gold) from lead, early on in the days of alchemy?

Also, this is awesome for the chemically-inclined. https://avogadr.io/. Now if only it could draw azidoazide azide for me ...

OK, I will admit, I have no idea where the second post came from. Perhaps me mistyping on my phone, or posting while I dropped it or something. Apologies for it.

And yes, I haven't logged in here for a while, so didn't see it.

So, according to certain feminists, "pretty privilege" is now a thing. If you are an attractive woman, you'd best not be proud of your looks, because you are unfairly gifted by the gods of privilege and thus have to be humbled. According to these feminists, just because you look good, it allegedly doesn't mean you are healthy.

I try not to complain often. But good grief, these people need to take a course in biology and evolutionary psychology. Why does everyone want to be a victim of circumstance nowadays?

I was not sure whether to post this here, or to create a new Discussion thread. Whatever the case...

I recently watched THIS video, about the gender disparity in the furry fandom - in other words, it tackled the question: why are there so many more males than females in the furry fandom? The video - which cited FurScience - says that, after extrapolation from a very large sample, it seems that the furry fandom is approximately 72% male, 27% female (and 1% 'other'). Oddly enough, however, when the sample focused only on furry artists (those who drew furry art regularly and were passionate about it), the demographics flipped completely: 70% of the furry artists were female.

In a nutshell, the video said that the disparity may have to do with females being far more likely to feel uncomfortable with the sexual deviousness and underworld of the fandom, rather than any sort of discrimination.

That seems like a reasonable answer. I wonder if it is true for female furries here in the local fandom, though.

I can only speak for myself as a female furry artist. I don't mind the sexuality per se & I've done many a porno commission in my life. I also love sexual innuendo jokes and given my career, I am fairly desensitised to genitalia.

My main complaint is the sexuality *combined* with sometimes excessive social ineptitude. You start being unsure whether a male you are interacting with can draw a distinction between fantasy & reality, and motives behind seemingly innocent remarks/actions may become sinister. Social ineptitude also makes folks incapable(?) of realising that they are making someone uncomfortable and when to back off - or maybe they just don't care?

I see. So it is not necessarily all the odd sexual fetishes and so on that makes it unwelcoming, but rather the fact that many with said fetishes tend to impose a little too much on you and others? Interesting. Though, to be honest, given the ratios of sexual orientation (in the local fandom at least), I would suspect males would more often be the ones approached in such a dirty fashion. :P
