Personality types.

#1

Post by Adagio »

A while ago, I found a site that had a quiz that told you what kind of personality you had.
I found it when a friend of mine told me what kind of personality he had, and I Googled it.
It was just a jumble of letters.
I did the quiz, and it told me I was an INFP-A

I didn't think much of it at first.

Then Azure linked me to the same site not long ago...
I did it again, and I got an INFJ-A
And I did it again after that, and got the same result.
(J and P are a scale, and I cot just above 50%, this time towards Judging)

Vid, an international friend had some things on his FA profile, and I got curious again. and I started reading the long paragraphs of data they had there...

And wow... It was like reading my own instruction manual!

Hahahahaha!

The idea here, is take the quiz, share your results. If you wanted to go through the "Explore your type" points.(I recommend you do)
Share some extracts that you found particularly insightful!

Maybe we can get to know each other better...

I got the Advocate INFJ-A
Image

Friendships:
Advocates find it easy to make connections with others, and have a talent for warm, sensitive language, speaking in human terms, rather than with pure logic and fact. It makes sense that their friends and colleagues will come to think of them as quiet Extroverted types, but they would all do well to remember that Advocates need time alone to decompress and recharge,
Strenghts and weaknesses:
Really though, it is most important for Advocates to remember to take care of themselves. The passion of their convictions is perfectly capable of carrying them past their breaking point and if their zeal gets out of hand
Relationships:
One of the things Advocates find most important is establishing genuine, deep connections with the people they care about.

Apparently I'm an Architect (INTJ-A). https://www.16personalities.com/intj-personality

1% EXTRAVERTED 99% INTROVERTED
86% INTUITIVE 14% OBSERVANT
74% THINKING 26% FEELING
98% JUDGING 2% PROSPECTING
65% ASSERTIVE 35% TURBULENT
Intro wrote:It’s lonely at the top, and being one of the rarest and most strategically capable personality types, INTJs know this all too well. INTJs form just two percent of the population, and women of this personality type are especially rare, forming just 0.8% of the population – it is often a challenge for them to find like-minded individuals who are able to keep up with their relentless intellectualism and chess-like maneuvering. People with the INTJ personality type are imaginative yet decisive, ambitious yet private, amazingly curious, but they do not squander their energy.
Well fuck me, no wonder I'm still single. -_-
Intro wrote:A paradox to most observers, INTJs are able to live by glaring contradictions that nonetheless make perfect sense – at least from a purely rational perspective. For example, INTJs are simultaneously the most starry-eyed idealists and the bitterest of cynics, a seemingly impossible conflict. But this is because INTJ types tend to believe that with effort, intelligence and consideration, nothing is impossible, while at the same time they believe that people are too lazy, short-sighted or self-serving to actually achieve those fantastic results. Yet that cynical view of reality is unlikely to stop an interested INTJ from achieving a result they believe to be relevant.
That's actually one of the reasons I call myself "Contrast". :geek:

I used to be an INTP, but apparently I'm now an INTJ. Curious

This is the first time that I have come across this "Turbulent" modifier, though.
In contrast, individuals with Turbulent (-T) identity are self-conscious and sensitive to stress. They experience a wide range of emotions and tend to be success-driven, perfectionistic and eager to improve. They are also more willing to change jobs if they feel stuck in their current one and to spend time thinking about the direction in which their life is going.
Sounds about right.

Anyway, my results:

I: 66%
N: 71%
T: 90%
J: 67%
-T: 81%

I'm a Debater (Totally true) (ENTP-A)

72% EXTRAVERTED - 28% INTROVERTED (I think this ones wrong)

54% INTUITIVE - 46% OBSERVANT

69% THINKING - 31% FEELING

37% JUDGING - 63% PROSPECTING

66% ASSERTIVE - 34% TURBULENT

Hey, now I have something in common with Tom Hanks. That's cool.

There's not point providing the results of both side of the axis, since they always add up to 100%.

Also, it's 0114. Why are you still up? You posted while I was midway through editing my post

I took the test several years ago. Forgot my result. Took it again, got the same result :D

INTP: the logician

"INTPs are known for their brilliant theories and unrelenting logic – in fact, they are considered the most logically precise of all the personality types."

I agree with this. I really believe in logic and reason.

"They may appear to drift about in an unending daydream, but INTPs' thought process is unceasing, and their minds buzz with ideas from the moment they wake up. This constant thinking can have the effect of making them look pensive and detached, as they are often conducting full-fledged debates in their own heads, but really INTPs are quite relaxed and friendly when they are with people they know, or who share their interests. However, this can be replaced by overwhelming shyness when INTP personalities are among unfamiliar faces, and friendly banter can quickly become combative if they believe their logical conclusions or theories are being criticized."

I've done that often... It's hard not to. If you spent long arguing something in your head, reached a conclusion, and someone else is for the thing you decided against... Well, they're usually wrong
I do try to act respectful. But I do get carried away sometimes...

"Open-Minded – INTPs couldn't make these connections if they thought they knew it all – they are highly receptive to alternate theories, so long as they're supported by logic and facts"

Feel free to argue with me, if you have an argument. I really enjoy it. Really. If I was wrong, I will admit it. And I love being proved wrong. You learn more by being proved wrong than right

I can't tell mine, it changes every time I do the test. I'm so neutral towards most of the questions though.

ENFP-T

I should be honest; I’m genuinely scared by how this test describes my personality. It might not be a 100% description of a person, but man does it tug a lot of the right strings for me.
Overthink Things – Campaigners don’t take things at face value – they look for underlying motives in even the simplest things. It’s not uncommon for Campaigners to lose a bit of sleep asking themselves why someone did what they did, what it might mean, and what to do about it.

Logician (INTP-a)
The INTP personality type is fairly rare, making up only three percent of the population, which is definitely a good thing for them, as there's nothing they'd be more unhappy about than being "common". INTPs pride themselves on their inventiveness and creativity, their unique perspective and vigorous intellect. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.

Who is the real “you”?
Does only you have the best idea of who “you” are?
Does your parents, friends or psychologist have a better idea of who “you” are?
Does every acquaintance in the world have a different idea of “you” thus making your inner Identity a pointless concept to look for?
And will a test be able to get a better idea of you than a person could?

It gets even more pointless when you add Theseus’s ship as a variable.
You are not the same person you were 5 years ago.
You change constantly although some characteristics might linger.

I think that the problem is that these tests are said to build an idea of your personality but what they really do is test for strong traits.
And because the person doing the test is self-aware and affected by the current environment they might have variable answers for test to test.

I still think these tests can be useful to detect strong characteristics both good and bad.
My year of school was monitored by a study.
We had to do ALLOT of mandatory IQ and aptitude tests.
My results were always extremely consistent.
But other classmates had wildly changing results.

Even if you are right Splicer-Fox, even if there is no merit to this test at all, maybe it is a huge waste of time? But to me I feel that it does directs your attention to a part of yourself that usually goes unnoticed and by making you ask questions like:
Who is the real “you”?
Does only you have the best idea of who “you” are?
Does your parents, friends or psychologist have a better idea of who “you” are?
Does every acquaintance in the world have a different idea of “you” thus making your inner Identity a pointless concept to look for?
And will a test be able to get a better idea of you than a person could?
Then it is doing something good for you, even if it is only to make you ask those deep questions.

You wouldn't be wrong, the validity of the Myers Briggs Personality Test is still disputed. In particular, people draw attention to the various dichotomies.

That being said, in my subjective experience, it provides a useful approximation of someone's inner workings.

No, a test that isn't a reliable indicator of how people will perform is useless. They say it is 'freakishly accurate' but that's only if you forget that it's asking a bunch of questions about yourself and then telling what you told it. It would be really weird if it suddenly surprised you.

But fine, if you are really that interested.

In any case, people that take the effort to deal with me say I'm really nice. I'll admit they never say I'm easy to get along with but that's not the point.

Sorry! I was just scanning up to see any matches and you first mentioned what you were and that's all that caught my eye.

Also here's a decent reason for not getting along.
INTJs will strive to remain rational no matter how attractive the end goal may be, and every idea, whether generated internally or soaked in from the outside world, must pass the ruthless and ever-present “Is this going to work?” filter. This mechanism is applied at all times, to all things and all people, and this is often where INTJ personality types run into trouble.
People don't like being told their idea won't work. Even when I know it won't. Which is quite often.
