Real life hacks

#1

Post by Cape_F0X »

Let's try and make life a little easier for ourselves with some hacking.

Please try and avoid posting those lists with twenty plus of the damn things and only a handful of those are worth it.
I think the best ones are those that we actually use or at least tried.

For example this one where you use a Croc (or other rubber sole shoe) to get fur out of fabric. I think it's super useful since we are, um... you know.

Those who have in their wardrobe a pair of crocs may require more help than just getting fur out of their carpets. :P (Yes, I am just kidding!)

Here is one that I discovered while applying a layer of varnish to a book-case I bought. After applying the layer, my hands were covered in the stuff: sticky and uncomfortable. Anyone who has painted or done carpentry will know that warm water and soap are only partially successful, and often you rub your skin raw with a nailbrush before you get just over two thirds of it off.
The "hack" lies in a chemical trick: water is ineffective because it is dipolar and the varnish is hydrophobic; the trick is that you use an oil that is hydrophobic, like the varnish, with which it will mix. Sunflower oil tends to work amazingly well. So, after you have painted your bookcase or furniture and have a layer of varnish over your hands, dab some sunflower oil on it, and the varnish will come off. :)

If you have sharp bits on your nails that are catching on things you can go to the bathroom and use the grouting between the tiles as a make-shift nail file.

Azure's hack reminded about another hand washing hack. If your hand are greasy and oily from working on your sweet ride, use laundry detergent and water to get the worst of the grime off outside the house.

That feeling would give the willies.

most of my hacks are because I was too lazy to buy things.

The most useful item you'll ever own is a crocodile clip. They are great for sorting out wires, keeping papers in order, holding chargers so they don't fall off the desk.

Oooh! I like this thread!

Well! Here's a hack... Although it's a little late...

For those hot summer days when you want something cool to drink.
You put your bottle of water in the freezer, and it's frozen solid?

Instead, fill it halfway with water, and let it lay on it's side, then when you depart, fill the other half with water, and have an instantly cooled, bottle of icy water...

Have some stale chips from that take away you couldn't finish? Need a snack?

Put them im the oven on grill for a few minutes! ;)
Tasty as new...

Most restaurants do this aswell.... But instead of the oven they prefry the chips, and just send them through a deep fryer again when serving...
