Thought it might be interesting to hear what others like when it comes to Architecture, Design and Style.

I love a mezzanine floor for so reason.

So, what weird and wonderful details do you admire in a living space?

It has always been my dream to weld a massive DVD rack out of pieces of scrap metal.
And no, I'm not joking.

I have this obsession over tiny spaces (I blame my small room in London for this). So I avidly follow several small spaces youtubers and want to make furniture to fit into tiny rooms.

ALSO

I heard today that they're going to rebuild the Colossus in Greece and he's going to be earthquake proof and have a library and culture centre and cost $300 million...

It's not Deja Vu, it's focus group testing.

You could probably notice from my first picture that I am a fan of modern design.

Normally I wouldn't paint on tiles but this is so artistic and well designed. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to see such strong color seperation in a spacious area such as this.

Which part of "They'll make it into a library, a cultural centre and restaurants" did you miss? It's architecture in sculpture form. More and more often there is a crossover, with multifunction architecture becoming common place in society.

I know. I am just not going to give it full marks for practically and ease of construction.

I am not an architectural aficionado, and hence I do not have much of a background in it. However, I have always found myself drawn to Victorian England residential architecture, dating back to the mid-1800s"

But doesn't it fascinate you? it's a marvel of engineering and architectural prowess!! Why should architecture be practical or easy to make? shouldn't it push the very limits of our constructive capabilities?

take for example -
piano-violin-building.jpg
It is beautiful is it not?

Or this! (My personal favourite as a horse rider)
130328181104-dubai-godolphin-tower-horizontal-gallery.jpg
I always wanted to be either an architect, an interior, or an exterior designer (or all the above). I love it, am fascinated by it. I want to see how far the world can push it!!! Buildings are being made with independent structures to allow for more safety in earthquakes and flooding. Engineers are themselves architects, while architects are encouraged to understand engineering.
Art and function are becoming synonymous, the two merging in a ballet of arabesques and usefulness.

Every building, no matter how "ugly" is a labour of art and love. Every piece of furniture, a gift of some ones mind.

I do admire those buildings. I am just pessimistic lately due to a building I frequent. (not going to building shame here) So at the moment I want people to get the basics right before they design a master piece. Of course it also helps if the building isn't built by the lowest bidder.

I understand. I too enjoy simpler things sometimes. Like... if I could... I would live in a simple, plain and boring, hobbit hole.

You say you like basics and people must go back to them, then you demand that :P

Honestly, make up your mind man :P

That's a "Killer" seat!

And with basics I meant getting in and out of a room, ventilation and shading factors. Building furniture that lasts more than two seconds.

Cape fox have a thing for minimalist architecture. I also like it but I have a thing for wood as well though.

@ Azure: That statement has nothing to do with IKEA.

@ Impw: I love wood, my room is full of it. And I also saw that house today, it's stunning!

What's that phrase? People who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones...

I absolutely loved the house from 13 Ghosts, and I genuinely wouldn't mind living in it (excluding the murderous otherworldly guests)

I would hate that. I'd always feel like people were watching me. Just give me a blanket and a nice, dark cardboard box and I'm fine.
