Suddenly! *a wild Nuclear Apocalypse appears*

#1

Post by Brutallis »

I have been mulling the following in my head for a while now, call it a day dream or if you would like a fantasy.

Consider the following scenario;

All of the furs in South Africa just got to the South-Afrifur convention; we close the doors... suddenly BOOM!

Nuclear Apocalypse!
Everyone gone, world burns and clears out of all other human life, but wait!

Slowly the doors to the convention hall open, the whole community safe and sound inside the still standing convention hall. Can we, as a community survive and thrive and build a society on the knowledge and skills that we have between us?
-----------------------------------

Now we set: that only humans outside of the community have vanished, wild life has still survived due to some nature voodoo.

Fallout/radiation is also not a factor, due to... let say "science?",

TL;DR version: All other humans vanish, only the SA fur community are left, would we be able to make a thriving community [Assuming that we all start from one location]?

(Note: I guess I did not have to set the scene, but in my mind that scenario kept gnawing at me and I wanted it out.)

Yea why not, guess it would be dusty and useless unless one of us knows how to operate it. Like let's say a powerstation. It's there but, who here knows how to run it, get my meaning?

Damn. I'm guessing we have no power, and even if we could run some generators, no internet...

We'll have to resort to reading BOOKS! Those stupid paper things... Eh, if we just go to a university bookstore, there should be enough knowledge to be able to build and fix most things. So, in the long term, we'll be fine

Short term survival would be a bit more difficult... We could get some petrol generators, and get all the petrol we need for, well, until the petrol goes bad. That should be enough time to find and set up wind turbines... We could totally set up a completely green power grid

Next, food... If we raid just one warehouse, we can have enough canned food to last us ages. Clean water, same thing

Next, infrastructure. We'd need to do maintenance on whatever building we choose to occupy... That really isn't an issue

So, I think we'd definitely survive. We may need to learn farming techniques for fresh fruit and veg... But that can wait. Short term, we wont die. Long term, we can probably build a network of power, raid all kinds of tech shops and such, maybe even automate basic things. I think we may even be better off in this scenario than we were before...

Well, perhaps psychological struggles may be our downfall. Just imagine that. Literally everyone else is dead. How do you deal with that... Survivors guilt.

Survivors guilt nothing, no more traffic and retail. this sounds like a plan to me.
If you take your marker and connect this dot to that one, that one to this one here you will get a really annoyed dalmatian.

The European Badger (meles meles) is known to have a rather large range of vocalisations, though it must be noted he often makes no sense at all.

I guess Leeward and Raven are our breeding stock then.

But yeah, there are enough people in the community that know what's potting. There will be plenty of IT people with nothing to do but maybe we can use them as sacrifices the appease the nuclear menace.

As far as crops go, we've got a hyena who can sharpen his botany and gardening skills and grow a few eggplants and potatoes for us :P

And let us not forget that once this is all set up, we'll need to think about repopulating the earth ._.

So members with a particular..disposition..will have to straighten up and pick a mate of the opposite sex. I'm looking at you Ryall, Vox, Sev, Fluke and others-who-make-it-obvious <.<

EDIT: Contrast can entertain said kids with his play-writing skills, something my ears will never forget q.q

Considering the significant male majority, I doubt that will be necessary.

Not a fan of this thought experiment. The premise is very negative.

Wouldn't mind talking about something more in the line of Furries inheriting a unused country. What our policies and who are our allies and why?

What a charming thought...

Mating with either would be like mating with my sisters. So, no thank you.

There must be a reason as to why we'd survive the radiation and I intend to find out! It might have something to do with our biology sssoooo...

Thank you Sev. I'm so thankful someone here doesn't wanna go all high rise on Leeward and I (It's a reference to a dystopian novel by JG Ballard)...

I AINT NO BREEDING STOCK!
I'd like to point out that with the combined intelligence power of Leeward and Siren (who we would also fly in because we need three girls and she's mah snoxy friend) they could probably solve the age old issue of test tube babies.

I love this premise by the way! I've never understood why more people don't think about nuclear apocalypse and the world ending/ being the last survivor.

It's like, my favourite subject. then comes spy thriller and finally comes demon hunting...

Well its not much but I could add my multi-dissiplinary degree to use.
Can help with some electrics, proper shelter construction, piping, home decor, some engineering, etc. etc.

I also have experience in making ammunition and hunting, so I can supply meat for our diets.

But if there is any radioactive giant spiders then one of you others will need to deal with it ;....;
I don't like big spiders...

Hmmmm... Interesting... I like it!

I have extensive knowledge of living off grid, I could easily set up a solar power system.
Plus I know where to get the supplies even.

Food will be a bit of a problem. Lets assume that the convention was held in city... Wildlife is pretty scarce...
We'd have to survive off of store food at first, but when that goes bad(no infrastructure) we'd have to start producing...

I have some experience farming. So, chickens for eggs, need some land, perhaps a tractor?(Those things are hard to drive! Geez!) we can use the animal waste as fertiliser...

Do we really assume we're tho only survivors? Oh wait... Are those...
Damn! The trekkies and star warriors made it too! And they are coming for our food!!

The first time I read that as "solar system", and I was quite confused as you could expect.

Also, what the hell are "Star Warriors"?

No but I'm sure a few of us have first aid experience and I've done some basic surgery on horses and dogs... I could totes sew up people if needed... (I'd be better than the robot from Fallout :) )

For medicines and stuff... We just need a text book, really. I can probably deal with anything, given a book on the subject and some time. Maybe not hands on stuff... My hands are shaky, I would never attempt surgery. But I can process information pretty well, so yeah. I really would just raid a university textbook store and work with that
