I know of far too many people who have been wronged by their churches (financially, by psychological abuse, and otherwise) to believe that. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with organised religion, because in any situation there is always someone who will abuse their power/authority/charisma for their own benefit. Yes, there may be a significant number of establishments that work properly and fairly under a given organised belief system, but the system itself is what is flawed. To use your Nazi Germany analogy, I'm saying the fact that Hitler was allowed to remain in power once his true nature/intentions were put to light was the flaw in the system. Just like televangelists are allowed to continue existing.

same with most organized religion. if you are raised thinking there is some angry dude in the sky that's gonna smite you if you don’t pay the church, you sure as fuck ain’t going to chance finding out if it’s true or not.
