The Truth Will Set You Free!

It has come to my attention that certain individuals have been severely butthurt as a direct result of honesty and the expression thereof in sincere attempts to clarify drama created by those same individuals. The resulting inaccuracies and misinformation has become a sad circle-jerk of self-centered lameness which I can no longer bear to hold sympathy for...

*ahem*

I am here to post a serious question because I am a serious cat. Man. Thing.
SRSLY @_@

I'd like to get a general idea about this because I had to make a difficult decision recently and the question is simple, but I would like honest answers.

When is it okay to lie?

I believe that lying isn't the end of the world as long there isn't any direct threat to anyone else, but there are specific spheres in which I feel it is better to tell the truth, always. Relationships and business. Which cover my social conscience, empathy and my rampant socialist doctrine which I keep tucked under my lower lip for uppity capitalist pigs.

Many webs are spun in an effort to escalate our worth, cushion painful reality and tarnish the respectable names of others. In a society obsessed with perverse bastardisations of reportage and rising levels of misinformation and properly scandalous rubbish what warrants a fibat ground level? I will not lie for others because I will not lie for myself.

Consider it self-righteous and pompous of me to believe what I do about truth, equality and justice, but I would like to know how others feel about lying. Outside of faith, outside of perception and not touching on anything related to the definition of 'truth'. We all know what the word means and we all know some areas are grey and subjective, but we know what is right and what is true. So leave the dis-assembly out and answer honestly.

Consider this carefully before posting (Rakuen). No knee-jerk reactions or obtuse logic. Just truth.

Why do you have such a thing against me? (and it seems nearly everyone and everything else)

I don't like lying, unless it's a small white lie which is mainly to stop something bad or unnecessary from happening. Lying in relationships and other things like that is definately a bad idea.

I'm just baiting you :p

I wanted honest answers instead of the usual deconstruction of every line that people try to offer to make themselves sound smart or whatever.

I find a lot of furs find it easier to lie to you and make as though they can move mountains for you, and then come back after they've failed and beg for forgiveness because it seems like it's a lot easier to do then then actually tell the truth and admit that they can't do it.

short term pain is actually easier to deal with, and then people gain a trust in you and your actions, i've got some severly waivering trust for a couple of furs now because of this very fact.

The only time I would lie is if its for the sake of goodwill and no personal gain. Though depending how important the information is, I'd rather make sure to tell the person in a safe evironment, i.e. not driving. I'd never lie to someone to make them upset..

I'm curious I don't like lying but I lied to my parents how I met a bunch of furs because I know they would get all upset about me meeting people from the internet. I feel I can take the risk to trust them but I know my parents won't and might even punish me for it. I know they're just concerned but I don't think it's necessary and I doubt they'll listen to my views. Is lying there a bad thing?

Well, lying to your parents can get you into a difficult situation.

you wind up haveing to remember past lies to cover thigns up.

I should know, parents caught me with my BF, that was awkward >.<
But, after being honest, they yell at you, and don't take to you for a month, and then they seem to settle down and come to grips with the idea that they no longer know you.

Heck, my mom got some prints and an original gay mousie pic on my wall framed for me.

She first thought it was cute, and then she said it was gay, and i said Thanks, cause that's what i was going for!

it als depends on your parents, i know some furs have been thrown out because they came out, i also know a lot of furs who have been shunned but at the end of the day your parents love you and you are their child.

Guess it's up to you, eventually you'll have to break it to them, or the stress of them not knowing will consume you, it's some pretty heavy stuff >.>
