Bookaholic's corner

Hmmm, I think this section might be just the place to post this thread >^.//.^<

Basically, this is a thread where you can discuss anything regarding books (and yes, you can even include graphic novels, comics, and manga).

You can write about the best book(s) you've read, the worst book(s) you couldn't finish reading; you can compare your fave (and not so fave) authors.

What about books that inspire you?

Books that made you cry?

Books that made you laugh?

What about books that were turned into TV series/movies?

E-books versus paper?

Any questions about books? Ask away! See what your fellow bookaholics can recommend!

Go ahead, don't be shy - let your inner book lover (or book critic) out!

Hmmm, guess I'll have to start things off, then~!

In keeping with the 'furry' theme, here's a list of books I enjoyed featuring various animals, both real and anthropomorphic (a word that here means, 'with human-like qualities, although not necessarily appearing humanoid in shape or form'):

The Classics:

Black Beauty (Anna Sewell): This was one of the first animal books I remember reading from the classics, and I was surprised by the fact that it was told from the horse's point of view, instead of - for instance - Beauty's handler, and that fact seemed to add an extra 'dimension' to the book, really letting me 'feel' Beauty's emotions as he went through the adventures (and misadventures) that befell him.

Watership Down (Richard Adams): Some of you may have seen the movie (I still cry my eyes out when I watch it, especially when they play 'Bright Eyes' [composed by Mike Batt]). I'd still recommend the book, even if you have seen the film. I just find that I connected more with Fiver and Hazel and the rest of the rabbits, as well getting more background on their way of life, especially their relationship with Efrafra, their 'god', and the whole 'nature vs man' dilemma.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (Robert C O'Brien): Yet another series of books about the effect of men on the natural world, also made into a film. I liked that Mrs. Frisby was willing to bet everything she had to try to save her friends; she had some real character - as did the Rats of NIMH.

Hmm, I've read more, but for the moment they slip my mind. I'll have to go through my collection and dig out my old books~!

I remember watching the "Secret of NIMH" movie as a kid. That scene with the owl and the spider was so creepy! >.<

Right now I'm reading "IT" by Stephen King. He's my idol.

The reason this thread isn't getting much attention is probably because there already is a thread similar to this one: http://forum.zafur.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1561

Although I must admit that this thread has a much better name.

PS: If you like anthropomorphic stories, why not give mine a try? Links are in my signature. ^_^
PPS: If you don't want to, that's fine too. No pressure. Just thought it might be something you'd like, based off the novels you mentioned.

Ooh, thanks for pointing that other thread out, I'll have to give it a read ;) (How'd I miss it? XD)

But I like to think mine's more a 'discussion' type thread (or hoping it will be, lol), and more about books that you HAVE READ rather than ARE CURRENTLY READING...

Either way, I won't mind if this thread doesn't get too much attention, I'll be interested to see what people post here, regardless~

PS: And sure, I'll give your stories a read-through once I've got some spare time ;p
