Fursona attempt. :)

#1

Post by SilverFox12578 »

Hi everyone! :)
So.. I finally made a (sort of) good pic of my fursona.. I'm not much of a artist, and I still need a lot of practice, but I'm quite proud of how it turned out. *blushes shyly.*
Some things are a little off but not too bad for my first actual attempt at a fursona. :P

You're welcome :3
Ahw, thanks ;-; Pff, time and practise. A lot of both, trust me x3

Well, question is first: How did you draw your fursona? Did you first draw it on paper, then scan it in? Or did you digitally draw it immediately? o:
I think the latter, but always best to ask (I think).

:) I drew a plain pencil sketch on paper first.. my scanner is broken so I had to take a photo of it with my tablet. Sent the pic to my pc, then colored it digitally. (using the paint program because I lost all my other picture editing programs when I upgraded to windows 10 )
I sketched it on paper first because I'm completely useless when it comes to digital art..

Your fursona looks wonderful, Silver! :) I must admit - I am most impressed. The room for improvement is ever-existent for every artist, but the colour scheme you chose looks nice: a pleasant balance between realism and fantasy. :D The upper body anatomy is quite good! May I please offer some advice? The legs appear somewhat disproportionate: that is, they could be longer in relation to the upper body. It varies according to body type, age and whether the character is plantigrade ("human-footed") or digitigrade ("dog-footed"), but many artists usually make the whole adult body about 6 - 8 "heads" in height, with the lower body making up half to two-thirds of that.

That being said, however... Dare I say, she looks beautiful. :D I love her hairstyle, her colour scheme - she just looks magnificent in general. Good work! Please, keep it up.

Yea I noticed that the legs look a little weird.. legs and feet are the things that I struggle with most.. it's actually annoying me a bit.. I'll see if I can edit it later.
I will definitely be drawing some more soon.. I just need a bit of practice.
Thanks for the kind words and advice, I really appreciate it! :D

Ah yes, I see now the background (white) of the paper! ^^
Haha, very cool.

First, I think the colour scheme is pretty darn cool, very, VERY, nice combination of the colours. The accessories are a nice touch to the drawing, and the hair style and hair colour are very nicely combined with the rest of the character. All seem to fit pretty nicely!
Second, in that case with regards to scanning/photography of a traditional drawing: if you ever get a different picture-editing program again (Photoshop, but a free program like Photoshop is called GIMP, you could look it up ;D), I would suggest you use the technique of 'Multiply', it comes in very handy when I want to colour traditional drawings ;)
Might make the picture seem more like a whole too ;3
Lastly, the anatomy: It's actually rather well done. I do think you could draw the legs a tad bit longer. Is the character digitigrade or plantigrade? In both cases, it might seem goo to lengthen the legs a tad bit. The nose looks like it was drawn from a side-angle, while the rest of the head looks more forward (or 3/4 view). Try to keep the perspctive/point of view similar with that as well. Granted, wolf/fox heads are difficult, so here are a few links to perhaps help you practise:
Images in top left of picture show a front view.
Image to a 3/4 view
A couple of angles
Hope these help! :)

(Darn, I just wanted to post and seems Galahad went ahead of me xD)

PS: I came across this image, it's a drawing showing the proportions. It's of the male body, so disregard any features you might not want (like broad shoulders, etc.) and change the features if need-be, but it should give an idea. Link: Image Proportions.

Very nicely done! Well, I'm not sure I can add much more that hasn't already been said...
I'll echo that the legs could be a little longer, but otherwise your proportions seem pretty spot-on.
I like your coloration as well. Good job!
