Re: My journey to improvement...
@Asbjorn your brother gave you a wacom intuos? lucky. i'm hoping to get one early march but we'll see how things pan out.
As for the my attachment:
Line art is done. Now it just needs some color.
Idea thus far would be:
Primary Fur: black
Secondary fur (muzzle, abdomen etc): grey
fur patterns (Stripes): white
eyes: either green or blue
as for the armor: black synth leather with dark blue panels (or i guess vice versa could also work)
Hair: no idea yet. thinking about white or grey with black highlights cause white seems to be the only color to really work well with black fur... -_-

What about the same colour as the eyes?
Also if you'd like me to colour this one I'll make a tutorial out of it this time.

Yeah he lives in the Netherlands, things are much cheaper there. Came to visit around my birthday last year was a present.

Re: My journey to improvement...
@Leeward. Hello again I would be honored if you colored it just promise to send me a link to the tutorial please. i gotta learn how to do this sometime as for the hair, i think a blue or white color with black highlights or a black color with blue or white highlights and tips would look good but I've never strayed from the normal brown hair on characters. if you think another color would look better, wouldn't hurt to try. I'm open to suggestions.
personally i think the white/silver-ish hair would look best but that's just in my mental imagery. reality sometimes proves different from our imagination.

Hey everyone. That looks great Leeward
but i can't stop laughing. this was a real eye opener for me. i swear i never noticed how much the clothes looked like something a pit crew member or driver wore haha. also he looks sorta happy. i need to work on my expressions and design lol.
this image was drawn with a "darker" vision in mind. don't get me wrong, please, this looks amazing. I'm just laughing cause i drew this with the image of a vicious killer in mind. so seeing my "killer" as a motocross pit crew member is just funny.
Thanks for all your hard work Leeward. your work is beautiful as always
and thanks for the tutorial. i'm gonna go watch it now and try it out

Re: My journey to improvement...
I PAINTED IT!!
Pride Level: Booyah
@Leeward i followed your tutorial to the letter. i had a darker shade of grey cause i ddint use the exact values i just roughly estimated so it's darker than yours and my shading was a bit... uhm... "wobbly?" but i did it
I actually did an OK-ish job i thought i did a good job, until i saw Ravensong show off her mad skills. you drew, colored and shaded that almost an hour faster than it took me just to color and shade this.
*Glares at ravensong* "showoff" just kidding wait a minute... you even drew the spit??? O_O
Haha im just joking. but in all seriousness that is epic Raven.
so i'm posting 2 images. one is the original design. the second is where the armor annoyed me to the point where i just erased it and drew a white sleeveless Kimono. its not the armor design that annoyed me, its just the sheer amount of dark colors in the image.

Re: My journey to improvement...
I like both... I think the Kimono looks really good against his darker color, but the darker armour also looks really good on him...
Just, a note, for both you and Leeward because you did what she did...
The shadow on an eye comes from the top down, not the bottom up, even if the light source is from below, eyes do not curve enough to cause a shadow rising from the bottom lid... Shadows on eyes always come from the top lid down...

Re: My journey to improvement...
If you'd seen where some of my shadows came from when I first started digital art... in traditional it's easier to be consistent... but in traditional we try and be as "realistic" in the shading as possible and that leads to over shading or shading going everywhere that it ought not be... I once shaded a picture with three alternative light sources and my mentor told me Why not just paint the whole thing black and be done with itLeeward wrote:Thanks Raven, I was too lazy to properly think the volumes through.

well here is a small peek of what i've been up to. this pic is a few days old, before i started refining and cleaning up the image. also this was taken with a mobile phone, not scanned so i had to reduce the quality, big time. this is a headshot of the current full body image i'm working on, clothes are giving me hell, so its taking longer than expected.
Edit: i forgot to add the image *facepalm*

I really like how you did the eye, but the nose looks a bit odd.

i can fix thatLeeward wrote:I really like how you did the eye, but the nose looks a bit odd.
but i don't see what you mean by weird, could you perhaps explain in more detail which parts or why the nose seems weird, like is it the entire muzzle area or just the nose at the end of the muzzle?

Re: My journey to improvement...
The upper edge of the nose should be flatter, nostrils wider and closer together, and fleshy part of the nose extending further down towards the upper lip. Also I would make the muzzle lines going towards the eyes much less obvious (you can do that with shading) and the... cheeks? (the 3-shaped part of a cat face :3) a bit more fleshy.

Re: My journey to improvement...
ah the cheeks have been an annoyance. I've been trying to get them to work but non seem to look as good so i though i could emphasis or line it with shading? (look at me making pro shading assumptions after just one lesson getting ahead of myself here, acting like a pro haha)
ok i'll have a look at how i can alter the nose when i get home. hopefully i can make it look better

I know that spilling other topics into another is not normally seen in a good light, but again.. to be honest kir what else can I say here other than that looks cool (which it does) and that you must keep up the work.. I am not an artist.. I don't know how to draw at all so I feel that I wouldn't be able to to add much value to the topic. Regardless of what I just said I must reiterate... you draw awesomely :p
