A D&D kinda thing

Come in, relax, play with your friends! You can find something for everybody here. You can even find threads with no particular point at all, other than a good time! You can even start up some role playing.

A D&D kinda thing

#1

Post by Krem2911 »

I wanna see if i can start a D&D roleplay set up in the generic RPG kinda world, im not a game master so if someone else could fill it that would be awesome so basically throw in your bio and lets get it started once we have enough people for a party.
So basic rules and how this world will work, a lvl 1-100 system is in place, every class/profession you can imagine is involved (nothing after medieval era) your character bio must include, Name; lvl; Special abilities; Class; Profession; backstory; equipment.
The terrain of this world can be made as we go along, every time a new place is discovered i will add it here along with what is inside the cave/village/forest/ect.
So yeah send your bio and lets do this.

I guess I could try and "Gandalf" my way through this? I'm not much of a GM so I'd be more comfortable simultaneously taking part and acting as a guide. Unless someone else wants to GM?

(That would be swell)
Name: Kremer
Level: 48
Special abilities: can make any blade appear in thin air
Class: Guardian
Profession: Blacksmith
Equipment: toothed steel great sword and full heavy steel armor(similar to Naotsugus from log horizon season 2), the gauntlets have spikes at the knuckles of them. He carrys a small bag around generally contains potions/coin/snacks/book of strong creature he's killed.
Backstor:up until he was 13 he lived the traditional life of a dragon, the one his parents lived. Up in the mountains he stayed In a cave surrounded by gold and that, his parents wanted to keep that life but he didn't, he took a small amount of coin from the massive piles and decided to go out and train to become stronger, he made his way to a village and stayed there at the in training himself to fight and to survive in the world by everyone who he could get to teach him. When he was 14 and a level 24 guardian he decided to leave the village and start wandering. He took with him a pack horse and camping equipment. With that he lived in the forests and mountains till he was 15 and had a level of 48.

That sounds like a pretty bad special ability. You'll only be able to use it on high mountains. Be totally useless at sea level

Sorry krem I understood what you meant. I just had to.

Anyways. I never played a DnD game but I have done a bunch of RP stuff.

Any more detailed info you want to give on how we going to do this all? Plus why are you starting at level 48?
Yea I read your backstory thing but I'd think we all would start out this as all of us at level 1-10?

If you guys really want do do a D&D thing, can we maybe not do it on the forum?

There's a website, roll20.net, I think (maybe .com?). I can maybe host something there? It's nice, having a map to work on and stuff, and voice chat/text chat

Because I never have, we don't have to play by any rule book. But we can, I guess.

My problem is... I don't really have any privacy at my computer. It's literally in the same room as the TV... So yeah. I don't know. Won't really be able to do voice talk, and explaining how things work with text chat won't be easy. Plus having a DM that can narrate well makes all the difference

In two months, I'll have privacy once more. Until then, either I won't be able to DM. So either we wait, or someone else does it

I can teach that person what I know, for what it's worth. I've only played and read the DnD manuals, which are kinda huge, but never DM'ed myself. I'd really like to... but can't right now

Okays. I'll DM then

I'll be taking normal D&D manuals and furrifying it, so mostly changing names of things. It's no issue

I can probably DM for 5 or 6 people. I think it'd be best to make a group on whatsapp or telegram or skype or something to co-ordinate this

In any case, it'll only happen in more than a month. I can maybe do something small first, just to give you guys the feel of it. So yeah. Contact me on whatsapp/telegram (or PM, if you need my number)

The traditional way is to sit around a table and game. It works the best.

Alternatives:
1) Get a fixed time (say Thursdays 19:00-22:00) that suits everyone. Use a voice-chatting app like Hangouts to do a voice call, and you can interact over that. Worked well for me, and you can add a dice-rolling app to ensure fairness. Roll20 is really the same idea. Video may also be interesting here, and screen sharing is useful.

2) Play via (post/mail/IM/etc). You choose a mechanism (say Hangouts), and each person posts their actions. As soon as everyone posted, the game moves on. This allows for more thoughtful roleplaying. Of course you also have to ensure that the game doesn't die (24 hour limit before we assume you don't post)? In my current game, the GM rolls all the dice.

I know someone who used to use method 2 over email, with a 24h timeout, the routine was: edit attached document, reply all. The group usually ended up with a million different versions of the same document because someone didn't use the latest version for their edits or some other mistake. A shared cloud document would have worked much better.

Hence why a IM system (like Hangouts) works well. Everyone sees every reply. Also, email works if it's in a discussion group / mailing list. Archives to search, and everyone gets every update email.

I feel like a voice call, preferably TeamSpeak or Discord, along with roll20 would be best. That's what I'm planning to do, anyway

Just want to organise time and date and help people make character sheets and stuff in the meantime, for which an IM like whatsapp would be good

Edit: I just realised that both have advantages and disadvantages. An IM-based roleplay has the big advantage of being able to happen continuesly... and it doesn't have to happen in months. Can start that soon.

I would still like to do a roleplay with voice chat and roll20 and such. But that has to wait anyways. So, in the meantime, I guess we could do an IM based thing.
