I'm trying to figure out what my fursona is. It's a little difficult for me for a couple of reasons. To be honest, while I do want to be a part of the furry community, I don't know that I'll ever be the absolute biggest fur and I'm still warming up to the idea of really embracing my inner fuzz, so I am not really sure what I should be thinking about as I consider my fursona. Also, while I've thought about which kinds of animals I've identified with in some way in the past - cats, birds, and rabbits - I'm not sure how to pick between them, and I don't feel particularly strongly about any of them. Finally, I'm not a very visual person (although I hope to change that by taking a drawing class this summer), so I'm having a hard time deciding what my fursona should look like visually.
(I'm guessing I don't even really have to have a fursona to be a part of the furry community, but for reasons of my own, discovering my fursona is really important to me. :3)
One idea I've been thinking about is a winged black panther with white and gold as secondary colors. I'm not really sure that's the species I want to identify with for sure, though...
How do you guys recommend I go about discovering my fursona? I'd definitely appreciate some advice!

A fursona is a different thing for different people. For some people, it's a deeply spiritual thing. For others, it's just for fun. For me... Bit of both
My advice: don't worry too much. If you end up unsatisfied, or later on find your true fursona or whatever, you can always change. Changing your fursona is far from unheard of (though people may frown upon changing it every week )

Some people change their fursonas like the average person changes their underwear.
Scribble a few things down, try them on for size, and then go for there.
I was torn between a Siberian Tiger and a Snow Leopard way back in the day. At this point, I couldn't imagine being anything but a snow leopard, though.

I don't see the why a animal persona or god forbid me saying one of the words I despise in the fandom "Fursona" is taken so seriously. Any character you can create whether it's cliché according to those who want an excess of originality ending up merging dumb stuff to create an even dumber spliced abomination or just a natural coloured animal person can be used as a internet personality. I still believe the majority of furries attaching themselves to one character they created so badly started alongside the anonymity of internet handles. It was the same about the same time socialising started happening online so I think there is a connection.
One thing that makes it stand out is that the fans do create content which makes it a bit different from other fandoms.

its all about the creation... the creation of a personal identity. I persoanlly have an everchanging personality, hence the inability to stick with one fursona. Ivic knows exactly what he's like, hence he's hardly changed. You changed, after a bunch of self searching/deciding it wasnt good for you too have a god complex
creating identity is personal and it's what makes the fandom so cool
