Marriage within the Community

#1

Post by Brutallis »

I have a general question.

In this community, do we have any Marriage Officers?

If not, would it be good to get one?

This is why I try not to use the word community that much. If you rephrase it like this.

"Does this fandom need any marriage officers?"

Or

"Does this hobby need any marriage officers?"

Then you see why it just doesn't work in a sentence. It's completely irrelivant.

It's like asking does my PC need potatoes?

There's probably no Model Train marriage officials, there's probably no rollercoaster enthusiasts marriage officials, etc.
if there is someone who is a model train enthusiast / rollercoaster enthusiast / furry enthusiast and also a marriage official, it is most probably just coincidence them having that job + interest, and they probably don't just marry people within that niche.
So if someone in the 'furry fandom' feels like becoming a marriage official, good for them, go for it. If they want to do it just to marry other furries, that's really not needed methinks.

Ok I'm basically asking why?

Think about it.

How will it benefit or affect the fandom?

The potato analogy is to show how the one has nothing to do with the other. Here's a extension of that analogy.

How will a potato placed inside my pc case benefit or affect it?

It won't. It simply doesn't matter and the pc will run just as well with or without it.

I'm not aware of any couples in the local fandom that have yet been married.
Ryall and Vox could possibly be the first when it happens to them.

I thought Gryph and his mate were married?

But yes, there's nothing stopping two furs having a furry-themed wedding with a non-furry marriage official, so I really don't see the point.

Oh, yeah, I do recall that.
Still, it's far too infrequent an occurrence to make something like this worthwhile.
And, honestly, how many furs would even want a furry wedding?

A simple, "No, and I don't see a need for one." could have worked just fine.

Don't be boring. It's more of a why? with my reasoning than just a no...

I share Franky's sentiments (though perhaps more politely so): Furries are a group based on personal interests (in our case, anthropomorphic animals), rather than one of a civil, religious or political nature. Of course, there is technically nothing stopping a member of the fandom from becoming a marriage officer and serving the community in that capacity, but there is no direct need for one.

As Leeward said, an alternative may be to host a furry-themed wedding, with furry friends, with a "non-furry" marriage officer. There would be almost no difference - aside perhaps from a confused and somewhat awkward marriage officer, depending on his or her experience. :P

With the furry community as it is, chances are you'd need an officer who's okay with gay marriage, so adding furry on top would probably not be all that weird to them.

Thank you for the response, this was more along the lines of what I was hoping to get.

I am not entirely sure if there is a need for one, but hey om the bright side a lot of marriage officers nowadays are very accepting of a lot of things, and not only that at the end of the day they get money! So they won't mind doing the completely bizarre hehe

Guys, you missed the furry wedding by like 4 years!

I mean honestly, you all should really pay more attention! You missed out on some excellent furry wedding cake.

Do excuse my teenaged ignorance, but is this referring to the actual marriage of two human beings that met through the community, or marriage of furs using their fursonas through social media?

Unfortunately it is xD Facebook furs are very well known for doing that. This is talking about the actual marriage of two human beings.

Yup. Some couples even have fictional children together, usually hybrids between their 'sonas.
