How did you find out about furries?

There are many ways in wich people found out about flurries and decided to join the fandom. And with more people showing up and old ones popping back in for a visit. I thought it would be interesting to see how you all came about discovering this fandom. Also this may prove useful, as we can use this to help find more people they want to join, as knowing why we joined can help us to get others to join.

Okay so this is how I found out about the fandom. When we got WIFI I got addicted to YouTube and would spend most of my time browsing any topic I found interesting. One of these topics was in deed Zootropolis/Zootopia (which ever one one you want to call it ). Either way I was watching a lot of videos about it, and in one of them they mentioned flurries. Because I'm such a curios person, I spent the the next few hours watching YouTube flurries and getting to know them more. I was interested to see if there were any flurries in South Africa, so after a while of searching I found this great place. I guess you can thank (or curse) my YouTube addiction for finding this place.

It would interesting to see how you joined so please tell us.

It is interesting to see how other fandoms are connected to furries (in an indirect way).

Werewolves! Technically it's kinda been at the back of my mind as my favourite cartoons, games, and etc always had to do with anthropomorphic animals or just animals in general. Then at one stage I became a huge fan of mythology and pretty much got obsessed with werewolves. Tons of google searches later I found furries, looked into them and pretty much was like "Well this is my life now".

I found out about the fandom by Bolt and Zakumi...
Bolt was my hero when I first watched the movie...
I loved it!!

And then Zakumi came with the 2010 SWC.
It intruiged me, I came accross some art of bolt, on a site I found through Zakumi, and it led me to a page in Sofurry, and from there on I was still a little unsure, and it took me a few months to finally register.

26 August 2011 I registered under the name "Compaqsurfer" Cringe...
But then changed it to Adagio when I registered at Furaffinity and Zafur...

My answer is twofold, and for sake of science I shall be 'Brutally' honest. I found furries through my crush that I had on Tigress from Kung Fu Panda. But I stayed for the more mature side, well stayed for that untill I found the forum and fiends here anyway.

Like I told Tetsudra in my interview yesterday, a Facebook fan page for the Khajiit race from the Elder Scrolls universe one day posted this pie chart:

Leeward, that is just saying that a lot of people who play as khajiit in sky rim are furries. That doesn't necessarily mean as that they found out about furries through the game.

So you found out about furries through the game? Or are you just showing me the statistics? And anyway I'm more curious as to now everyone here found out about furries, to get a better understanding as to how we can see where would the best area as to find other people(in south Africa) with the same interests. Those statistics don't apply everywhere, right?

Are you serious? That's a satirical chart, it's not supposed to represent actual statistics: it's a joke, implying that most people who pick Khajiit are probably furries who just don't know it yet.

Yeah, I do tend to take things too serious. Thanks for clearing that up. So Skyrim cool, never played it. Again, did you find out about flurries through Skyrim though? That wasn't really stated.

My long meandering tale goes from writing fanfiction, particularly pokemon fanfiction, joining AGNPH (back when it was cool) and seeing a link to Yiffstar (Yeah, Yiffstar. I read some of these stories and they're from so recent...). Anyway that was how I learned about furries.

In the US, most Sonic fans are furries anyway. That's where I learnt what's what with the fandom, and fursuiting.
The Sonic fandom exposed me to fan-fiction, then yiff, then furry and all that goes with it, in the space of 8 months.

Back then nobody in SA had a clue, well not anyone I knew anyhow.

It is awesome though to have a partner that respects and embraces it. That much I can tell you. Even though my parents wanted to disown me.

Prior to that, but only experience of the fandom was the abundant amounts of Yiff.

He told me he was a furry but at the time I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about.. He explained it to me and after doing some snooping around on the internet I decided to become one myself.

I just couldn't resist the art (most of the artists are freakin wizards with pencils!) I also love how much you guys support each other. I've always been a bit of a role player too so yea. I'm somewhat new to the community so I think I still have a bit to learn.

Unfortunately my friend left the country a few months ago. I didn't know any other furries and I started getting lonely so I decided I joined up here.

Anyway I was looking for a dragon pictures on google (with safe search off) and discovered some 18+ rated pictures. That is how i initially got introduced to furries.

I used to role-play, usually putting myself in a movie (eragon, dragon heart,LOFR) and seeing how things played out.

This is an elaboration on my original post:

Somehow, I came across a particular picture of Yiff (I was not into porn at the time). I had no idea what it was at the time, but I knew that I liked it.

For literally years (in fact, until shortly before joining this forum), all that I knew of the fandom was the yiff that was periodically updated on this site run by a single Asian (I think that she was Taiwanese), Chita.us.

That's right, for the longest time, I thought that the extent of the fandom were the yiffy pics compiled by this one person.

And to think that I said that I didn't like yiff when I first joined...
