Assistance regarding ZA Furs

#1

Post by Rakuen Growlithe »

For those of you who don't know, I signed up to do a talk at Eurofurence again this year. It will be about the South African furry fandom, especially my own journey and this forum. But I could use your help. So does anyone have any aspects of the fandom that you think should be included and if you have nice pictures of furmeets or something like that it will also be appreciated. If you do send pictures that have people's faces you must make sure everyone is okay with the picture being shared or tell me who to exclude. I might make more requests over the coming weeks as I actually work on the presentation. Finally, does anyone have screen shots of the forum before it died and needed some quick CPR?

Noob intro thing?

And, wow, it's felt like a good while since the forum looked like that.

Frankly I much prefer the new L&F and extra functionality, I don't miss the old theme at all.

I don't really see how you can do a whole talk about the SA fandom, but go ahead. I've got nothing useful to contribute though, unfortunately.

Well I'll give it a try. Also about my furry journey. Could be a lot of Q&A as well.

I would have assumed that L&F stood for layout and functionality, but then that would make the second part redundant.

And I don't miss it either.

Why do you continue to say things like this?
I don't think that anyone actually finds it funny.

Rakuen perhaps you can take some exerpts from the "What does the forum mean to me" thread? It had a lot of good points in there about how we feel about it.

Also Cape, I don't know if you're doing it on purpose but could you not bait Sev, or anyone in that matter. I've also noticed your "banter" isn't taken as funny (I don't see it as funny either).

I find it somewhat... noteworthy that Cape is accused of baiting while he is clearly joking, whereas certain members passed snide and haughty remarks and yet go on without a bit of criticism. However, that is an entirely different matter. Do not worry, Cape. :) Humour is subjective, and many take it without the pinch of salt it needs.

To contribute to the topic at hand:
I agree that the "Why Is ZAFur Important to You?" thread contains many gems that might be mentioned. Also, what about our plans to host the first South African furry convention in 2017? Even if it is not guaranteed, it is certainly ambitious and would be a landmark achievement for the furry community. It would also certainly draw the attention of the other furry communities.

I thought Cape's retort was funny... but probably only because my boyfriend and his father have a similar sense of humour.

I had forgotten I wanted to check that thread for useful info. But 2017 wouldn't be the first furry convention in South Africa. The South Afrifur convention started in 2008! I know Ivic disagrees that it was really a convention but it was our national get-together and it was only a few people smaller than the first Eurofurence, which is now the biggest furry convention in Europe. Ivic's plans would be great if they succeed but I think I have already noted that I think most of the discussion about it is overly ambitious.

I am new so i dont know much about all the South African furry goings on but I can at least say this. So far this site and the members here have been incredibly welcoming and kind. If there is one thing I can say whole heartily its that the South African Furries are a very amazing group of people whom I am starting to hold very dear. Thanks guys and i hope the opinion of this little nooblit helps in some way, shape or form.

I'd like to the say the same, I'm not south african (my mate is, but that's not the point) and this is an amazing group of people. Unlike MNFurs where I left the forum years ago

I can help with stuff for EF, unfortunately I can't go :c
