Fursona creation help

#1

Post by Kspore »

I am currently working on my fursona. Anyway I really can't draw but I want really to make the fursona.
If any one has advice or reference that will be really helpful.

If anyone else is also having problems in the creation of their fursona feel free to ask on this sub forum, I'm sure some one will help( eventually). :)

You haven't really provided any details to go on. Do you want it to be semi-realistic or toony? A feral or an anthro?

Well my fursona is a wolf. I'm trying to get it to actually resemble a wolf so semi-realistic. And it is an anthro.
Right now I'm working on the head of my fursona.
Any tips how I should tackle it, will be helpful.

There's a ton of templates around for anthro wolves. I suggest you start with a Google image search for a nice one and some inspiration. After that, once you know what you want, ask again and we'll be of more help.

Also FurAffinity and DeviantArt, those may make it easier for you to find stuff you need. :D

Through the past week or so I have been working on a rough sketch design for my fursona. I'm not the best at drawing and any criticism will be helpful.
If you have any ideas on how I can improve it feel free to help.

I think you were going for a pic that resembles this.

There is a lot of foreshortening at the muzzle. And the ears are sharper and upright.

I know double posting is not really allowed but I really proud of this draft. If anyone has last minute advice for me, before I do my final draft and then edit it on my laptop to create my fursona, it will be appreciated.

Don't take the lips up so high. Find a way to separate the head and neck. Maybe think about hair. And stroger brow. The brow needs to show where the top of the head is.

Not meaning to shoot you down, but you're wanting to create a character here, not make art. Perhaps concentrate on nailing down the idea before making your own design?

I'm going try and edit it tomorrow. Get to actually add colour and now that a have a baseline of the wolf, I can try make it more of a character. Definitely adding hair though. :)

You completely missed my point. This is why I suggested starting with templates, like that you don't even have to worry about your own drawing skills.

Yes, but I want it to be my own design. I will bits and bobs from other designs to create a better image but in the end I want it to be my own.
And in this way I can improve my drawing skills. Using a template just seems like taking the easy way, for me.

Leeward is suggesting that you are going about this completely the wrong way. You need to go horizontally, not vertically.

You should try describing it words before putting it on paper.

It's a matter of perspective in the piece, the muzzle currently being drawn from an almost top view while the face is being viewed from the front.
It will take some revision but it can be adjusted and learnt
If you take your marker and connect this dot to that one, that one to this one here you will get a really annoyed dalmatian.

The European Badger (meles meles) is known to have a rather large range of vocalisations, though it must be noted he often makes no sense at all.

hmm a new perspective.

I have an idea I'm gonna sketch put that may help make sense.

I grew up with the expression, "to hammer a [picture] frame upon the window". Makes perfect sense

This reminds me of the client's expectations for the project.

"Why don't you use this really cool thing?"

"Perhaps because it is completely inappropriate in this situation?"

Look Kspore... You don't seem to be getting my point at all, so I'll be straightforward. Yes, your drawing skills are improving, but you're just sketching the same thing over and over, there's nothing new to the concept in each subsequent iteration. If creating a sigil or logo for yourself is what you want to do then fine, by all means carry on, but what you're doing is not a character design. We still have no more idea what your fursona is supposed to be than we were when you started this thread. So if you still want to create your alter ego here, then please... stop the doodling, grab a template off google images, and colour it in. It's not rocket science.

Leeward, I am not good at drawing so I do mine piece by piece. I have finished one part of the fursona and I will build upon that.
And if I didn't state this before I will now, " I do not want a generic wolf to which anyone can fill in, this is my fursona and if it takes another year and more reams of paper to complete, I will not give up. This is my fursona, and my hand will create it."

Sorry but that's the way I feel.

Leeward, if he's not going to do it he's not going to do it. There's no need to keep repeating it.

That's not quite how a template works. It's there to give you a base to work off. You add the markings but that doesn't mean that it is set in stone and has to perfectly match that image. As it is now, I'm not sure what separates your own drawing from a generic wolf.

Leeward is not saying you should be unoriginal and just copy past a wolf.
She is saying you should find the defining characteristics.

This refers to colour, pattern and style; toon, wild or a mix.
For example I went from a place holding profile pic that was a bit too toon for me to full realistic.

I understand what you are saying. I'm not the best when it comes to being creative but that's why in trying so hard to create it from scratch. I want to see the many pages, hours and time I put into the creation of my fursona. I want my effort and dedication to show through when it is all done. It is going to take a long time before it is going to be done but I'm willing to try my best.
That's why I have been asking for help, to see where I can improve my work but to still show my effort.
