I think it's been a while since this was last done and it came up with something I was thinking about. So I want to see what the racial breakdown of the current forum users is. Fairly rough categories I know but I imagine many of them won't be used anyway.

Such diversity I do wonder why the fandom has such a predominantly Caucasian demographic. I mean, it's not just here, it seems to be the case in the States/EU as well.

In the US and Europe it makes sense. The interesting part is it being so white here.

Take the US for example, it's only 72.41% white. I'm fairly sure the fandom is well over 90% white there (based off anecdotal evidence, to be taken with a pinch of lemonade). Still a fair disparity between furry and national demographics.
EU is only 14% minority so it almost makes sense there.

The interesting part is it being so white here.

Yeah, here the disparity extreme. It's likely to with the western geek culture origins of the fandom. Something which whities are naturally more exposed to due to cultural heritage.
It still leaves the question, do other ethnicities have notable groups of would-be furries that don't join the fandom because they aren't exposed to it? Or do they have a smaller population of would-be furries because children weren't exposed to furry themes.

Going further we could ask makes people predisposed to become furries? Nature/nurture or any combination thereof?

I actually have a hypothesis that it might be because the furry phenomenon is largely Internet-based, and considering this country's race/class correlation, it's not hard to see why most non-whites in this country have never even heard of furries.

Not only do I agree slightly with the internet theory, I bring forth a secondary theory:

A lot of the african cultures do seem to follow strict rules, much more so than the caucasian culture. Thus to be a part of this could be against rules, and thus people hide from it, trying not to show their identity regarding it.

However, how this plays with this Western influenced new generation is yet to be seen. Honestly, I hope to see this spread out in coming years.

What? Walmart is an extremely well known brand, even outside of the US. However, is seems that many non-white South Africans have almost no knowledge of extra South African things.

There's this nation wide deference for anything that comes from the US. "Boet, this was made in America."

never heard that one before. i usually just hear. "Made in china" or "Made in japan"
and this slightly offensive one is very popular where i am from

I remember listening to the South African News, and this one public entity was bragging about how it had gotten its hands on something that was "made in America", and everyone seemed to be in such awe because of that fact.

Exactly the same way Americans brag about owning German luxury cars?


American products generally have high brand value. Considering the relatively expensive cost to manufacture in the US, American products need to have some selling point to make them competitive against much cheaper products from industrial nations. By and large, American products go for quality as this selling point. Not much else justifies higher prices.

TL;DR American products have a reputation for quality. They need to be of high quality out of necessity.

Well I can tell you know that the four eastern dragons I know of are all white males between the ages of 17 to like I think ones mid twenties...
