More insomnia. Id not be bithered by this if it were wednesday night... seeing as from thursday ill be jobless. But i have two days to get through and i cannot sleep.

Why... why universe

Of course, you could just Google insomnia relief techniques, but here are two suggestions anyways.

1) Hot tea or milk and a relaxing book or video (I am not sure what your opinion of ASMR is, but perhaps give it a try - there are dozens of ASMR videos on YouTube. Some people dislike it, some people like it.)
2) Lie upon your bed and be swallowed into the bottomless, dimensionless void that is your thoughts. (This option may be less recommendable.)
To help treat my own haphazard sleep cycle, I took melatonin supplements - no chemical dependency, light, and effective. That may be an option to look into?

In any case, I hope your sleeplessness is resolved soon. ... Do not be dissuaded by the fact I am writing this at 00h45.

I only ever suffer insomnia when i am going through a change in circumstance, like moving, or being let go.
I know what causes it, fixing it is simply a case of patience to allow structure to return to my life

Any tips on how to reduce algae growth?

There are several ways to control algae. The quickest is to use chemicals, but those tend to upset the whole tank's ecosystem so I advise against them. The most effective is light: make sure your tank doesn't get much direct sunlight, and if it has an artifical light, switch it off at night or put it on a timer switch. The best way in my opinion is to combine light control with letting the algae grow (within reason) and having something in your tank that will eat it: snails, shrimp, or algae-eating fish such as cory cats, plecos, Chinese algae eaters, Siamese algae eaters, or flying foxes. Beware of Chinese algae eaters though, they are cute little creepy crawlies when they're small, but when they get bigger they will try to snatch some biofilm off the skin of your other fish. Also be careful of choosing the right pleco: most of them get huge, but you do get some species that stay small, most notably the Panaqolus genus. I have one of these in my 100L and it does its job really well, but it bulldozes around uprooting the plants daily and produces a baffling amount of poop.

Thanks for your advice Lee! I really appreciate it! I think I've been leaving my light on for too long... Silly me. We only have a small pet shop here that doesn't stock many fish like plecos and I don't like using too many chemicals.. but a friend of mine said she'll give one or two of her snails. If you have any more advice for a newbie or would just like to chat.. please send me a pm.
