Howdy!

Post by Traden »

Hello, new friends! I'm Traden.

I have to admit, I'm not a furry yet. But it looks like something that could be a lot of fun to get into, so I want to dive into the community and see whether I enjoy being an animal! I've started to think about what my fursonas could be, and I'll probably post them as I figure them out.

I'm in the USA. Trace recommended this forum to me. I'm a 25-year-old software developer with my master's degree in computer science. Even though I'm a programmer, I have a strong artistic bent. I produce EDM and write stories, and I'm trying to get into developing video games as well.

I'm really into house, dubstep, drum 'n' bass, and fusions between EDM and folk music from around the world. I typically write drum 'n' bass or soundtrack-style music, but I've been trying to get into house and dubstep for a while. If you're interested, you can listen to my music on SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/audiblade/tracks

I'm currently working on writing a story for a video game I want to make. The story has some strong existential themes. By the end of the game, most of the characters are aware of the person playing the game, and one of the major antagonists tries to fight the player directly. For some reason, stories in which characters in one world find themselves interacting with characters from another world always fascinate me.

I also enjoy playing video games :). I especially enjoy platformers and Nintendo games. Some of my favorite games are Super Mario 64, Klonoa, Super Monkey Ball, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, and Undertale. The game I play the most is Dance Dance Revolution/In The Groove. It's a little silly, but it's how I stay in shape and a big part of the reason why I enjoy EDM so much!

I'm excited to get to know you guys and explore becoming a furry! :3

Hiya, newbie! :P
To keep everyone from guessing, Traden has been a good friend of mine here for quite a while, and now is my boyfriend, as of a few days ago. :3
Somehow I have convinced him to check out our little corner of the internet and to try to find his inner fuzz. So now we have another random American on here. :P
I hope that you can make him feel as welcome as you have all made me feel. You guys rock! :3

Thanks! It's good to hear that there are other programmers in the community. It'll be nice to meet them! :)

Trace and I have actually known each other for several years. We met through a mutual friend, became college roommates (platonically at the time), and then decided a few days ago that we wanted to be more than friends :3

Awesome, fellow developers! :D

What are you working on, Leeward and Sev? I'm currently working on a web app using Node.js and React with Ruby on Rails on the backend.

At the moment, Eclipse RCP and SWTBot (both total bitches if you ask me), and also some GIS stuff (which is actually my main field of expertise).

System Architect at a company that specializes in Electronic Warfare.

They use whatever I tell them to (within reason, of course). Currently introducing them to the wonder that is ReactJS.

The backend is in Entity Framework, but I also have experience with NoSQL DB's like Mongo.

I had to look up what Eclipse RCP and SWTBot are. It looks like they are the frameworks that the Eclipse IDE frontend was built with - in which case, you have my condolences :P

GIS is cool stuff, though! What in particular are you doing in that field?

I had to look up what Electronic Warfare is. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_warfare, it looks like it's designing military devices to sabotage enemy communications equipment. If I have that right, how does that tie into a React webapp?

Congrats on being a system architect! That sounds like a senior position, so you must have a lot of experience.

Just because the systems are deployed aginst an enemy doesn't mean that they don't have interfaces.

Web interfaces are useful because they can be accessed from anywhere, provided you have valid credentials on hand.

Well unlike Sev I don't break my NDA willy nilly for the sake of bragging rights, even under somewhat anonymous circumstances, so I'm afraid I can't say much...

I manage a GIS server and create and maintain datasets like custom satellite imagery mosaics and reference vector layers such as roads from OSM.

How have I broken my NDA?

All of this information is publicly available on their site.

And saying what my job description is or what tech state I am implementing is hardly some big secret.

Stating which technologies you use exposes potential vulnerabilities in your company's products, among other risks.

A healthy dose of paranoia is necessary in the tech industry.

Fair enough, but you could just phone them up and say "I am interested in working at GEW. I was wondering, what is your tech stack?"

Facebook created React and uses it extensively. Are they worried about everyone knowing that?

Just because they're flippant about it doesn't mean they or anyone else should be careless.

If it was as big a deal as you were making it out to be, no one would ever disclose their tech stack.

Meh. Better safe than sorry, especially with something so easily avoidable. You're obviously not catching my drift so I'll leave it at that.
