An apt response. And it made me chuckle, so here accept these 10 points.

Also I should have said hello on your other thread but I legit got stuck on which cartoon to use...
I once spent a day working with horses, they're beautiful and powerful creatures, but also rather scary if you've never dealt with them before. Maybe that was just me not wanting to get hind-kicked in the face by one of them.

What kind of songs do you write/sing?

How's it there in London?

It's cool beans with sprinkles and mustard.
Trace wrote: Well, I'm living in the Midwestern US right now, in the city of Lincoln, Nebraska. It's pretty nice here for the most part. Generally pretty green, and we get actual seasons, which I'm not really used to still, as I mostly grew up in deserts. The city is very much built around the university here, which tends to dominate the culture to some extent. Here American football is everything to a lot of people, and as someone who generally cares very little about sports it's one more thing that makes me feel like an outsider a lot of the time. Otherwise, it tends to be very conservative and mostly fairly quiet. Outside of the city itself is largely farming communities. If you ever come out here, you will see a lot of cornfields...
I've always loved traveling, and have been very fortunate to have seen quite a few places across the World. I spent most of my young life in the United Arab Emirates, a little country next to Saudi Arabia. I also lived in Jordan for a couple of years, but I was very young at the time and don't remember much of that. When I have lived in the US, in the past it's mostly been in California, where I was born. I left the UAE to go to school in the US, which is how I ended up here.
As for majoring in Biology... Like I said, I tend to be very indecisive. At one point I was going to major in Medicine, with the hopes of becoming a doctor like my Mom, but that didn't really work out... So I opted for just getting a Biology degree. In retrospect, it probably was a decent idea anyway. I've always enjoyed the subject. The natural world fascinates me, and I love learning about it. I might still be able to do something with it too. Still figuring that out, but I might be getting closer.
Currently I have ideas for a couple different webcomics. Probably the one I will focus on first will be a fantasy webcomic, but I'd like to do a slice-of-life webcomic as well. I've been pushing against laziness and a lack of talent myself, which is what's kept me from starting it years ago... But I'm hoping to change that. Thanks for the well wishes!
I'm rather jealous, I haven't been anywhere else except the Western Cape. I suppose I'll get to travelling once I have more money and such. So... never?

I see. I too also enjoyed studying Biology at school. One time I was jumping between Medicine and Archaeology. But I couldn't really say either ever clicked with me. Finding your dream job is a balance of what you're good at and what you enjoy, I'm sure it'll all work out for you in the end.

You got the plot and such already thought out? Recently what's been stopping me from writing was foreshadowing. I usually used to have only subtle attempts at it, now I want it to be more integral. But overthinking the story does tend to make me lose some sort of motivation.

Hi there.

I would too, but my name is so common, one time there had been 5 of us in the same class at school.

What kind of arts and craft?

Let us all shed tears for the coffee, the innocent bystander that had to suffer for the sake of revenge.

Wow. What made you decide to learn how to play the Ukulele?

I know the feeling quite well. Most of the time I can't come up woth what to say.

Im mainly into fiction. Read a lot of what I guess would be refferred to as dystopian future books. Also like the horror genre. Mainly been into forensic crime stories lately tho.

Haha yeah I realise putting it out there where everybody can see isn't the best way of keeping it secret

Ooh. Any good ones you've come across? I do enjoy murder mysteries if they're done right. I'm not sure horror can really be translated all that well into book form. I stand corrected though.

Not really. Most of the ones I've read so far they either give the killer at the beginning and then go on to try collect evidence and such or they try to keep the killer a surprise but I catch on to who it is pretty quickly. So meh I wouldnt feel comfortable recommending any of the ones I've read so far.

I found one horror book that kept me awake for almost an entire week because I was so terrified. But that might be because of personal stuff. Cant for the life of me remember the title right now...

Nah, I kid! I'm mostly nice with a low tolerance for drama. I am still an old lady though by the forum's standards. Young at heart and love silly randomness.

Complete contrast to my very serious job as a forensic DNA analyst specialising in serial offenders. I guess I have frivolous pursuits like furry art in my spare time to balance out my disappointment in humanity.

I am a "casual" furry & don't subscribe to lifestyling. RP'ing makes me cringe. Doesn't stop me from attending cons or owning a fursuit head (with two more in process). I hope to attend Confuzzled again next year if life permits.

I honestly don't know how you guys do it. Online gaming never really sat well with me. Maybe I'm just unlucky enough to have always gotten the rotten fruit when I tried.

That's cool. So do you plan on making teaching your full time profession?

Hi there.

Wow. That seems like a pretty hectic profession. How'd you get into it? Also, my 'faith in humanity' as it were has been long since lost that I can say with somewhat confident that I can't be disappointed anymore.

I'm still... relatively new to the scene. Well, not new per se. Just new in the sense of actually trying to be involved. Yeah, no. I doubt I'd be able to tolerate that sort of rp'ing either. Sometimes the word cringe doesn't do the feeling justice. I'm not sure if fursuiting is something I'll dabble in, so far it seems unlikely, but time will tell. What are the conventions and such like usually?

That's good to know. Let's see how long I last.

If you don't mind me asking, what's the final outcome of all this you work on, i.e. the final product? It's probably a stupid question with a pretty obvious answer, but I'm hitting a blank at the moment.

Yeah, I guess I've been pretty lucky to get to experience different cultures and parts of the World. It can make it hard to feel like anywhere is really "home" though.
I have most of a general plot, major characters and the ending planned out for the fantasy webcomic. I still have quite a bit to figure out though... Like how best to go about starting it. Hopefully I'll be able to fill in the gaps in time.

I can imagine. Having to make new friends everytime you moved and leaving the ones you made behind. Sure the internet and such lets you keep in contact, but I doubt its the same.

You should give me a link to wherever you're going to post it, so I can read it. Or post it here... I'd like to see where it goes.

I studied Zoology/Entomology but many of my elective subjects were Genetics related. I tried Academia after my studies, but Academia sucks (petty infighting, jostling for research grants etc). My dad suggested I apply to the SAPS Forensic Lab as their minimum requirement is a BSc degree. Got the job & within a year of working there I was a Reporting Officer (the analyst who goes to court & gives expert evidence). Within 6months of that, I was selected as one of the start up members for the Serials Team.

I must admit that although you sometimes deal with the absolute drekk of society in my line of work, you also deal with very dedicated people who are helping complete strangers get justice.

As for the fandom - I don't think you have to be 100% emersed into any fandom to enjoy it. I enjoy the nebulous concept of original design & creativity that is inherent in the furry fandom. Other fandoms do not seem to encourage original characters (fursonas in the furry fandom), instead rehashing existing characters for their creative pursuits (and then arguing about whether Severus Snape would reaaaally act the way a fanfic described LOL).

Cons are filled to the brim with socially awkward people interacting with other socially awkward people. You meet interesting people, see good art, spend waaay to much in the dealer's den & hang out with friends you normally only talk with online. Think of it as a long weekend away with your friends who happen to be 6ft tall vixens.

I see. Do you... enjoy your line of work? Even though television and such make it out to be interesting and 'fun' by glamourising it, I can assume it isnn't always the case.

A strong sense of justice has to be the only real requirement for people to want to be in that profession.

I suppose I agree. I can't really pinpoint why I joined the fandom, but I suppose I like being able to 'be' someone else for a while. Step away from my life for a while.

Fandoms can be funny and... rather sad sometimes. Shipping being the most cancerous. Using Harry Potter as an example, sure Draco and Harry were destined to be together and if I say different I must 'stop trying to suppress your creativity...'

I can imagine. When and where do these things usually take place? And how many people usually attend these events?

Hi Cyn, what a lot of furs do to make friends here, is snoop around all the posts, including introductions; look at individual profiles, and try spot a fur they think they could be friends with. This could be based on common interests, common values, or maybe you just like the way the other fur writes.

Once you have spotted a fur you like, you then drop them a PM to say hello and get to know them a bit better. Through PMs you can then organize to chat outside of the forum (on Skype, Telegram, Whatsapp etc. ) and start arranging activities: sharing videos, playing games, arranging meetups etc. That fur will often have friends who he or she may then introduce you to.

You might wonder why nobody has approached you via PM. There are a few reasons for that. Firstly this is a busy time of year for many furs - especially for those studying. Secondly a lot of furs are active in other aspects of the fandom, and may not notice the newcomer who joined the forum. Thirdly, while many furs are welcoming, a lot are also quite shy when it comes to initiating one on one conversation.

Rest assured though that all furs welcome attention, and friendly new faces, so you shouldn't hesitate to hit that PM button and start making friends.

I hope this helps!

Hi there.

I'm sure you're right, and that it'd be that simple, but if I could do it I'd probably have done so already. Sure, lurking is something I'm quite the expert on, but when it comes to talking to others, I get stuck.

I mean, sure I can talk and talk quite a bit sometimes, if there's a designated purpose, or if I know that the other person wants to, but otherwise...

I suppose if I had to explain the feeling, its somewhat as though you automatically start thinking of the negative outcome, 'what if that person doean't want to speak to me?' 'What if trying to speak to them annoys them?' I mean, I'm me. And I know me. 'Would I want to speak to me in that situation?' Eventually it escalates to the point where I'm dead certain the better course of action would be to not do anything.

Believe me, I know its stupid. And if any amount of 'get over it' would have helped, I would be different by now.

I don't blame anyone for not trying to speak to me. If anyhing I understand why they don't. I feel similar feelings too.

Thanks. I'll take your advice to heart.

Pleasure!

Starting up conversation can be tough, especially without a, "designated purpose," like a topic thread to the conversation. What I usually do to address that is ask the person lots of questions about them. People like talking about themselves, and usually a talking point, such as a common interest, will come up eventually. Then that will give the conversation more direction!

Once I have been chatting to the person for a while, I also like to pose hypothetical questions to the person. Not that, "would you rather <meaningless shit option 1> happens to you all the time, or <worse meaningless shit option 2> happens to you some of the time?" type hypotheticals: those tend to irrirate and frustrate people by forcing them to think about unpleasant alternatives, and don't give much insight into the person's outlook on life, other than their ability to rationalize their decision making. Rather ask things like, "would you want to be your fursona in real life; would you want to live indefinitely given the choice; what would you do in situation x?"

Most furries here are looking to make new friends, and so you should try to assure yourself that they actually do want to talk to you. I've been on this forum for seven years, and have never met or heard of a fur here who got irritated because someone tried to talk to them. Sometimes people have a bad day and they need space, but in that situation the best thing is to just leave them and try again the next day.

You can't help the way you feel with regards to worrying what others might think of you, but maybe put a little faith in this community and work up the courage to say hi to someone. Don't be discouraged if the first person you say hi to doesn't end up as your best friend. At the very least you will have introduced yourself in a more personal manner, and made a friendly acquaintance. :)

If you don't mind me asking, what's the final outcome of all this you work on, i.e. the final product? It's probably a stupid question with a pretty obvious answer, but I'm hitting a blank at the moment.
I don't mind, but my NDA does unfortunately, so I can only speak in very broad terms. My company produces hardware and software platforms for use in telecommunications monitoring.

Oh my. So one of those; if you tell me more, you'd have to kill me moments. Interesting indeed...

On a side note, what made you decide to choose this profession?

A very long, circuitous turn of events. TL;DR I wanted to learn programming in uni and one of the courses that didn't have a shit ton of math in it but wasn't super boring (and wouldn't result in a dead-end job) was geoinformatics. The more I learned about it, the more I liked it, but it didn't appeal to me too much as a career path by the end of it. So for the sake of looking more attractive to prospective employers, I became a dev with GIS as a bonus, rather than an analyst who could also code but hardly ever did and got more and more rusty over time. I was then headhunted into my current job from the previous.

Do you enjoy this line of work? And what about programming and such fascinated you? I.e. what moment made you decide that it was going to be your chosen profession?

I'm geniunely interested, I myself have never really found any sort of interest in the field, so I'd like to get other perspectives.

I've always had a fascination with computers; one of my most cherished photographs is of few-months-old me sitting on my dad's lap and staring at the computer he was working on. I took IT as a subject in high school, that's when I fell in love with it and knew I wanted to do this for a living. What appeals to me most about programming in particular is that it's not a question of "Can it be done?" but "How can it be done?" The only limitation is the current hardware, which is subject to Moore's law anyway. Plus, I won't lie, being one of the best in an almost exclusively male classroom really stroked my ego.

You should give me a link to wherever you're going to post it, so I can read it. Or post it here... I'd like to see where it goes.
Yeah, having to say goodbye to friends can be really tough, and I've had to do it way too often. I've made some amazing friends across the World though.
Cool, it's nice to know that someone is interested. I will plan to post on the forum when I get it up and running for sure.

You make me happy, when skies are grey?

I think once you get used to them and their different personalities it'd be fine. But I was literally thrown under the bus knowing absolutelu nothing. Shame. I felt so sorry for the lady I was supposed to be helping. In the end she ended up having to help me most of the time.

Singing is fun. I too enjoy singing along with the radio. But beware any who listen.

I heard on the news somewhere that it was warmer there. I suppose all you can do is enjoy it while it lasts.

Hi there! I'm Vakie the red fox (pretty generic I know) 20 years old. I've been part of this forum for about 9 months now and a furry for a few years although it's hard to specify a specific time. I'm a bit of a musician (tenor saxophone), I do a bit of programming (mostly Python), a bit of electronics tinkering and work with chess for an income. I'm also a second year actuarial sciences student at TUKS. Feel free to message me.

Good morning. Do you do live gigs or is it more of a hobby? Work with chess for an income? If you don't mind, would you let me know a bit about that. What do you want to become once you finish your studies?

Sorry about the twenty questions. Its okay if you don't want to answer any.

Will do, same goes to you. You can send me message whenever you want.
