I was actually thinking of visiting the Czech Republic. Mostly curious to see Brno.

o.o The regular ZAFur one. In the same place it's been for the past decade or more.

The zafur channel on furnet... The only one that has ever been referred to on this forum. The one I organised a plugin for here that nobody ever uses because it's been shoved into some obscure thread.

You'll be welcome here! But why Brno? There are more interesting places than Brno I think. For example "Pravcicka brana". It's rock bridge made by nature. It was used as filming location in Narnia movie. :D

Cause that's where Mendel was and he discovered laws of genetics. Partly through intelligence and hard work and partly through work.

Mrow! Good to meet you, Lweek! :3 *holds out a paw*
My gosh, I love your sona man!

*reads your intro*
ZooHackatons, programmer, move to South Africa. Very Cool man!
There's a huuge demand for good developers down here. Especially in the iOS realm :3
Are your Zoohackthons open internationally per chance?

Also I'm sure many of the furs here could help with making sure you see South Africa from a local, non-showy perspective if you do happen to visit ^^,

I'm happy to hear that. I would love keep by iOS development if possible because that's what I've focused to in last 5 years. If so then last problem to solve is legal question. Do you know by any chance what rules are applied for foreigner workers?

Well Zoo Hackaton is local event but I would love to spread this idea world wide. Thus I bought zoohackaton.org domain because who knows where future of this platform is. Would you like to join? We could do it experimentally. We could set international team that will work on something by telepresence (for example using skype). That sounds awesome to me! Actual date of this event is set to 9th and 10th April (weekend) from 9am CET until evening 6pm and next day from 9am until 2pm.

That's what I would love to! It's always much pleasant and interesting experience than traveling as tourist.

Since Lweek might be visiting we should teach him some tips and tricks. Show him the ropes.

For example: In South Africa we refer to traffic lights a "Robots"
So don't go looking for Wall-e if somebody says; "left at the robot".

You should be able to apply for a critical skills visa
The visa allows you 12 months to find a job, lasts for 5 years, and Software devs seem to be on the list of critical skills. :P

That sounds quite cool! I'll speak to some friends locally and see if anyone's interested :P
Maybe you should make a ZaFur post to see if any of the software dev furs are interested :3

You beat me to it Darq :P
"now now" for a South African means within the next 5 minutes to 48 hours xD

I have heard that a lot of people leaving South Africa mostly due security reasons. Like it is not really safe for children at schools etc. I checked out Teleport.org. Everything is fine but security score that is really really low. I personally didn't consider South Africa as super safe place but didn't realise it is that bad. However it is probably not that bad as long as you all guys living there and being safe?

It's highly dependent on the area you're in. When I was in school I never felt in danger, although in hindsight the security measures were rather lax. My former high school has put up an electric fence where previously (i.e. in my time) there was just a thigh-high wall.

If you live in stick to upper class areas like Constantia you'll be safe. If you not, you're completely fair game.

I would like to point out I felt safer in Melville than I ever did in the fancier parts of Fourways. I felt safer in Soweto than I ever did Meyersdal. I've lived in "good" and "bad" areas and they are all the same. South Africa is uniformly a little more dangerous than living in a bad area of London, the difference is in London they have less barbed wire and dogs to deal with than in SA.

I honestly think the people leaving SA for "security" reasons are full of shit (unless your family was held at gun point, then I'll excuse you from my argument). You find crime everywhere. The difference is in SA it is almost glamourized by the press and by social media, and therefore it becomes the hot topic to everyone. And then the world gets that view of SA.

There's a reason why no one wants to go to Essex. Because anyone who comes out of Essex tells everyone else that its filled with blonde bimbo's who wouldn't know their left from the right. Having been there it is only slightly true, and Essex has a lot more to offer the world. They have Taco Bell.

All you have to do is compare crime stats between places and you'll see that's a perfectly reasonable response. Look at the homocide rate by country. Darker is more homicides.
